Crime and Exercise

Yesterday morning started like most non work days.  I got up, fed the kids and took them to school.  Although this morning, I changed my routine when I got back home.  Usually, I do one of 2 things.  I either kick on the Netflix and watch Star Trek TOS (I’m in season 2) or I crawl back into bed and cuddle with the wife until I fall back asleep again.  When I play Star Trek, usually around 10 o’clock or so, I start getting tired and end up falling asleep anyways.  So this morning, I came home, changed into shorts and a t-shirt and dusted off the Wii.  But before I got started, I hear shouting.  A woman on the other side of the complex kept yelling (while crying) to leave, just get out.  It took me a bit to locate where it was happening, but I saw the door open so whoever was doing the arguing were in the doorway.  I saw 2 teenage girls leave and that was the end of it.  So I went back to the Wii, turned down the volume and put my headphones on (Cheri and Skyler were still sleeping).

1

I’m pretty sure 106 days ago I logged in real quick just to see if I’ve gotten any fatter.  When we first got the Wii, I set up a program to work out to.  It had some yoga along with strength training exercises.  So I logged into that.

2

Yikes, that’s even longer than I thought.  No wonder I’m fat.  I turned on my Spotify and did the program.  It’s a total of 52 minutes.  It was harder than I remember and I certainly didn’t perform it as well as I did 910 days ago but I completed it.  Worked up a sweat and everything.  Here’s the workout at a glance.

3

These are the Yoga ones, I do 17 (squared in yellow) of those 18.

4

These are the Strength training ones, I do 11 (squared in yellow) of those 15.

I finished up, then I did some of the games on the Wii fit kind of as a cool down.  I ended up spending about an hour and 20 minutes doing something other than laying around.  That’s a big step for me.  Not that I’ll do it again, but at least when I log into the Wii next time, it won’t say over 1000 days since the last time.  Or at least I hope it doesn’t.

I went back and hopped in the shower so I can smell pretty when Cheri and I went to run our errands.  I got out of the shower and started telling her about the yelling I saw, I pointed out the window to the apartment where it was coming from and what do I see but cops walking around.  Now granted, this is 2 hours later.  I rubbernecked for a few minutes when I see this.

5

Now, she walked down the stairs and climbed onto the stretcher so I don’t know what her issue was.  All I know is there was a shouting match there 2 hours earlier and then what you see here.  I checked the local police blotter but it only goes to the 7th.  If I remember to look I will let you know what happened, chances are I probably won’t remember and to be honest, I don’t really care.  Other than it made my usually boring mornings a little more exciting.  And I got a blog post out of it.  Lucky you.

WWW Wednesdays #13

WWW_Wednesdays4

To play along, I’m supposed to answer 3 easy questions.

What are you currently reading?

The First Pillar (Everville, #1)

Everville:  The First Pillar (Everville #1) by Roy Huff

This has been pretty good so far, I’m a little under half way.  I should have a review up next Wednesday.  If you want to pick this book up for your kindle for free, it will be on sale between May 12th thru May 16th.  Next Wednesday is the 15th so I may do the review earlier to coincide with the promo sale.  Here’s the link to the Amazon page but it isn’t free until May 12th at midnight, Pacific time.  He’s also giving away a free signed paperback copy over here.

What did you recently finish reading?

72 Hours: A Thriller

72 Hours by William Casey Moreton

This was a lot better than I was expecting.  Good action from start to finish.  When a man on death row makes a public announcement for anybody to kill Lindsay for $500 million, all of LA goes nuts for a chance at that kind of money.  The FBI decides to go off the books and hire’s an ex agent, Archer to protect Lindsay and her family for 72 hours which is the deadline for Lindsay’s death, when the inmate is to be executed.  The action is pretty nonstop, the main characters are great and the introduction of professional killers trying to cash in make this a fast paced thriller.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Into the Woods: Tales from the Hollows and Beyond

Into The Woods by Kim Harrison

I said I was going to start this one in the last WWW Wednesdays but I was contacted by Roy Huff (book I’m reading now) about doing a review before his free giveaway so it got bumped back.

Randomness Quicky

It’s a work day so I’m tired but I’ll bust out a quicky, maybe twice tonight.

Yahoo! Contributor Network

I posted a couple of stories over on yahoo.  Don’t get too excited, anybody can post that I know of.  They are both sports related but the links are below if your interested in checking them out.  You can also click the banner above to view my profile.

I posted the links on my Facebook page and asked for everybody to click over just to get some pageviews.  Hardly anybody did, my friends and family suck ass sometimes.

Ronald McDonald House Charities

A friend of mine, has a son who has had 3 surgeries now, the latest just a few days ago.  I’m not going to go into all the details but I will link you to his blog post about it.  But when he has to go to the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House Charities puts him and his wife up with a room and all they ask for is a charity donation and even that isn’t necessary.  He started a fundly account to raise money for them which tells you the kind of person he is.  I donated, and then supported him by starting one for his charity as well.  So click the banner above and donate a little or a lot, any little bit helps.

I know I’ve asked for money twice this week, but that should be all for another year.  But both of these charities mean a lot to me.  MS Society for my wife who has MS, and this one because RMHC has helped out a friend with a child in need.  From one father to another, I have to do what I can for him.

the Jackass, episode #15

Since I have so many new peeps from the A to Z Challenge, before you read this or even after if you want, to find out who the Jackass is, just click his link.  For a quick reminder, he is theEx’s new husband, who completely controls everything she does.  Oh, and he has the mentality of a 5 year old.  So go read up on his adventures.

He seemed to be a hit on my Facebook page last night, so I figured I’d get everybody over here up to date.

I’ll start off with April 14th, it was a Sunday when the kids were supposed to come home.  Cheri drove out to the usual meeting place at 7:00 pm.  They didn’t show up.  She came home and told me what happened so I called and texted theEx until I got an answer.  She finally called at 7:33 and informed me that she sent me a text saying that she was taking them to the movies,  They finally get home around 8 (which is Trevor’s bed time) and the kids informed us they haven’t eaten anything since lunch except the popcorn at that new Wizard of Oz movie.  I turn on the home phone (it’s a cell) that the kids use but we shut off when they aren’t here and in comes a text about the movies.  I understand texting the wrong number, but if you don’t get a response, shouldn’t you text again or call?  Instead, we wasted gas driving to pick them up and Trevor went to bed late on a school night.  And if you know Trevor, has has to get his sleep or he doesn’t function well the next day.

Here’s where it really gets interesting. On April 27th, which was Opening Day for the kids, both of them had games,  I had informed theEx of this on the 24th, she never responded so I assumed she was coming to at least one of them and then they would go home with her for the rest of the weekend.  I have to keep them on Friday nights when they have things going on Saturdays because I’ve learned before that I can’t trust them to get the kids to their functions.  Anyways, I’m at work and Cheri is with the kids at the 2nd game and I receive this text.

Screenshot_2013-05-05-14-46-43

This is all from theEx’s phone, not the Jackasses.

<- That would be the Jackass, pretending to be theEx.  You can tell by the periods all over the place and theEx doesn’t call it the farmers market.

<- We had plans of going to my brother’s to see my niece’s new baby and for a cookout.

<- Again, the Jackass pretending to be theEx.

<- My response letting him know I know it’s him

<- His response still pretending to be theEx.  She doesn’t use U for you like this special kind of idiot does.

After all that, SHE finally calls me from his phone but not until 3:41.  Which was probably her next break because she can’t use her phone at work, or his rather, because he has hers and she had his.  (*sidenote – according to Samantha, they switch phones because hers has internet and his doesn’t).  The conversation basically goes like this.

Me - “Yeah.”

Her - “When can I get the kids?”

Me - “Cheri has them at the ballpark at the moment, your options are pick them up there, or come out to Tony’s this evening or I can call you when we’re done and I’ll meet you afterwards.”

Her - “How long are they going to be at the ballpark?”

Me - “The games usually run around 2 hours.”

Her - “Cheri’s there and has her phone?”

Me - “Yes”

Her - “Ok, I’ll text her then”

Me - “OK, bye”

Her - “Bye.”

That was it.  I sent Cheri a text and said that theEx was going to text her and I assume they will come to the field to get them.  Trevor’s game gets done and they are sitting there, waiting on Trevor to tie his shoes (it still takes forever) and then as they are walking out to the car, theEx shows up.  So Cheri send them into the restroom to change their clothes (they aren’t allowed to wear our nice clothes to her house because we will never see them again) and while they were changing, Cheri told her “You should have sent me a text and let me know you were coming, if Trevor wasn’t so slow at tying his shoes, we would have been gone already.”  She wasn’t mean about it, just stated it (my mom was there and verified that it wasn’t said angrily).  TheEx said “I told Jeff I was coming”.  Now you can go back and read our conversation, I assumed she was but never did she tell me she was.  She said she was going to text Cheri and she never did.  I’m guessing she texted the Jackass and told him to text Cheri since he had her phone and he never did.  Because a little while later, Cheri gets this text from theEx’s phone.

jackass04

Seriously?  This is how stupid he is.  Him calling her a cripple is downright stupid because he is worse off medically than she is.  The difference is, Cheri has a disease that can’t be controlled.  He just doesn’t take care of himself and is constantly in the hospital.  He’s had multiple toes amputated and can barely walk.  Not to mention, Cheri is by far a better mother to those kids then theEx is.  She doesn’t take care of them the 2 days she has them, she just uses them as a maid service.  This is the idiocy that we deal with.

Later in the week, I called theEx to tell her that the MS Walk was this Saturday so I would be keeping the kids again on Friday night and we should be done around noon.  She said she would text me when she gets off work and then we’d meet..  I told her no, call me, I will no longer accept text messages from your phone since your girlfriend (that’s what I call him when I’m talking to her) likes to pretend to be you.  She said ok and hung up.  I received these Friday and Saturday.

Screenshot_2013-05-05-13-40-57

Again, these are from theEx’s phone, you may recognize the top message from above.

<- The JackAss, they cut his hair like they were told to.  You can read about why they cut his hair here.  They cut it into a mohawk because they thought it would upset me.  It doesn’t.  All I asked Trevor was if he wanted it or they made him, he said he wanted it and that was the end of that.

<- My new automated message that I use when I get text’s from them.

<- Apparently I’m a cigarette.

<- Again, my automated response.

I’m not sure what was going on at 8:06 pm that made him think of me but there it is.  I guess I’m out of the closet now since he made the announcement for me.  Basically anytime I receive a text from them for now on, I copy and paste that message and send it again.  It sucks, because his texting has brought so much enjoyment to this blog.  But I get the feeling, he won’t stop texting because as I might have said before, he’s stupid.

This is a taste of my world of dealing with the Jackass.  The sad thing is, I would probably still be friends with my ex, if he wasn’t such a douchebag.  Even Cheri has said she doesn’t have any issues with her, it’s all him.  I would love to have that kind of relationship with her where I could text her and say, Samantha got an A on a test today, or Trevor got a hit today.  But instead, I don’t relay any information unless I’m asked.  And she never asks about grades or sports.  All she wants to know is where and when they have functions or games so she can show up and feel like she’s doing her motherly duty.  At the kids age, that works for them.  Samantha is on to the Jackass though, she doesn’t like him anymore.  So as they get older, they’ll see who the parent is and who the pseudo-parent is.  They’ve even started giving Cheri hugs and stuff now.  Oh yeah, they are learning who takes care of every need.

MS Walk: 2013

I completed the A to Z Challenge, posted my weekly book meme and then took a couple of days off.  Back to normal I’d say.

Cheri and I had our annual MS Walk today.  It takes place on the campus of IUSB here in South Bend,  Our team this year consisted of Cheri and I, Samantha and Trevor, my mom and stepdad, my grandmother and my mom’s cousin.  All family, we’d have friends walk with us but we really don’t have any.  This year we about doubled our donations because of the fundraiser and a couple of generous donors   Cheri is already planning a bigger and better fundraiser for next year.

Team Laws

You have the option of a 1 mile or a 2 1/2 mile, we opted for the 1 mile due to the fact that I’m not sure any of us (maybe the kids) could even make 2 1/2 miles with ailing injuries and age.  Not to mention, with Cheri’s ruptured disc she couldn’t walk the mile so I was pushing her in a wheelchair.  We all donned our shirts that Cheri had designed (pic above) and Samantha took off and was the first of “Team Laws” come in, followed by Cheri and I and then the rest of the family.  Everyone survived it.  It really was beautiful day to walk, it was in the 60’s so it wasn’t hot or cold, it was just perfect.

Our tally as of right now is $936.  I say right now because you can still donate.  That’s right, you haven’t escaped.  This is my last plea for money until next year.  At least in regard to Multiple Sclerosis.  I don’t care if you donate $1 (theEx did, she sponsored both of her kids for $1 because they were raising money for their stepmom) or you can donate $1000 (really, I wouldn’t mind).  But please click the banner below and help us fund a search for a cure.  You can usually donate for a few weeks after the walk, I’m assuming that’s the case this year as well.

National MS Society- Walk MS- Michiana 2012

If you can’t afford to help, I certainly understand.  Do me a favor and go to our Team Laws facebook page and give it a like.  It would make my wife extremely happy to get some likes at least.  Plus, we’ll eventually get pictures posted from today there as well.

WWW Wednesdays #12

WWW_Wednesdays4

To play along, I’m supposed to answer 3 easy questions.

What are you currently reading?

72 Hours: A Thriller

72 Hours by William Casey Moreton

This has been pretty good so far, I’m a little over half way.  It’s been an active book since it started, always something going on, which I like.  I’ll give a review next week right here on WWW Wednesdays.

What did you recently finish reading?

Something Deadly This Way Comes (Madison Avery, #3)

Something Deadly This Way Comes (Madison Avery #3) by Kim Harrison

I would have to say that this is a trilogy like I had heard because the end of this books seems like a finally.  Madison has been working at changing the way souls are reaped.  Instead of taking the bad souls before they are lost, Madison wants to give the people a chance to change their souls and make them good again.  With the help of her “team” who in the first book had their doubts at what Madison wanted to accomplish but now are all on board, they go to save her mark and end up almost killing her and her brother.  It was a race against the other timekeeper to save her soul and change the way things have been done for centuries.

I gave this book 5 stars on Goodreads, which doesn’t surprise me because I generally like anything Kim Harrison does.  I wasn’t sure how well I would like this trilogy but by the 3rd book, I was definitely into the storyline.  I would definitely recommend the book but I would also recommend you read the other 2 as well before this one.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Into the Woods: Tales from the Hollows and Beyond

Into The Woods by Kim Harrison

Another Kim Harrison book, as I said above, I like pretty much anything she does.  I got introduced to her reading “The Hollows” series and this book has a few stories with those characters.  Which is the main reason I’m reading this because I don’t generally like short story books.  Just as you get into the story, it’s done.

A to Z Challenge - Z

If your new to this Challenge, every day of April, minus the Sundays you blog about the letter assigned for that day. To find out why I’m blogging about what I’m blogging about, then go here. Today’s letter is

Samantha’s word – Zebra

It’s a horse, with stripes.  Not much to say about that but I hear stripes and think of the fruit stripe gum.  Does anybody remember that?  I don’t know if they still make it or not but I loved that stuff.  So juicy.

Trevor’s word – Zack

Zack and Cody?  That’s the only Zack I can think of.  Zack Greinke who I believe plays for the Los Angeles Dodgers right now.  He just broke his collar bone in an on field fight with Carlos Quentin who he plunked at the plate.  Tip #1, when someone bigger than you is charging, don’t drop  your shoulder and then hit him.

A to Z Challenge - Y

If your new to this Challenge, every day of April, minus the Sundays you blog about the letter assigned for that day. To find out why I’m blogging about what I’m blogging about, then go here. Today’s letter is

Samantha’s word – Yoyo

I used them sparingly as a kid, I could do them but none of the tricks so it really wasn’t anything special to me.  I’m just glad Samantha didn’t put Yolo.  I want the people who use that phrase to say it right before they do something really stupid and then end up dead, then I can go to their funerals and say “Well, you called that one didn’t you, dumb ass”.  Not really, but kids and their shortening of everything is annoying.

Trevor’s word – Yak

Yaketty Yak, and don’t talk back.  That’s what I think of when I hear the word Yak, not the animal.  And when I hear that song, I think of the movie “Stand by Me”. When I think that movie, I think of how awesome Stephen King’s books are.  I’m sure some of you didn’t even realize that it’s based on a Stephen King short story.  Just like some of you probably didn’t know the greatest movie of all time “The Shawshank Redemption” was also based on a short story by Stephen King.  But most of you know that “The Green Mile” was.  So for all of those people who say Stephen King books scare them, he writes all kinds of different things.  He is by far my favorite author and I’m looking forward to watching “Under the Dome” this summer on TV.

Sunday Randomness #12

Due to the A to Z Challenge, I’m not posting much this month other than those posts.  But I have Sunday’s off from the Challenge so I’ll throw a Randomness post to cover the week.  I typed this out throughout the week.

Monday

I worked today.  Nothing really going on.  Samantha actually got a practice in tonight so there’s a positive.  She’s had 3 or 4 now.  Trevor is still waiting on his first.

Tuesday

Mark (my foreman) came up to me and pulled out the calibration sheets in my section.  It was about 2 months worth and my name was nowhere to be found.  He asked why I didn’t fill them out every morning.  I told him I didn’t have a pen.  He said he will make sure I have a pen every morning just so I can fill out the sheet.  Then he stuck around and talking and going through my stuff.  He opened the flap of the bag I carry my stuff in and there sat a pen.  Oops.  I told him he wasn’t supposed to look in there.  He said so you were lying to me, maybe I should right you up.  I said go ahead, write me up a couple of times so I can have a 3 day suspension.  My next 3 work days are Friday, Saturday and Sunday, I’ll take those days off.

They can’t really threaten to write me up, I tend to tell them to go ahead, I don’t care.

---<>---

Samantha had her batting practice canceled so as you can tell, we are still battling the rain.  We’ll see if she gets to practice tomorrow.

Wednesday

Woke up this morning, took the kids to bed, came home and crawled back in to bed with Cheri.  That was probably a mistake.  I ended up sleeping until after noon.  While it felt great to do so, half my day was gone.  I missed at least 4 hours of sitting on my ass on the couch.  I can’t believe it.

---<>---

Samantha had her practice today.  They both have their first games on Saturday, which I will miss.  These will be the first games that I missed because of work.  I decided that I just can afford to take the time off to go to their games like I did last year.  Although, last year it was kind of forced because after I started coaching, work announce the change in hours half way through the season.  It pisses me off that work took this away from me.  I won’t be happy throughout the season, I can tell you that now.

Thursday

We went out to Play it Again sports and bought the kids their baseball pants, got home just in time to get him changed and off to his first practice.  While Trevor was at practice, I received a text from Samantha’s coach saying they weren’t providing socks this year so we had to purchase some red ones.  Sure enough, I picked up Trevor who had his uniform, and no socks.  So the $150+ (I don’t remember exactly how much, but it was at least that) that we paid for both kids to play, and they can’t provide socks.  On top of that, they need them by Saturday, so they gave us 2 days notice.  Needless to say, we weren’t happy.

Friday

Back to work today.  Not much going on there.  My mom took the kids shopping tonight and picked up Samantha some cleats as well as picking up the afore mentioned socks for us.  Although Trevor told her black when it was supposed to be gold.  The coach had told the team black but then had text me later and said he made a mistake and to grab gold.  We hadn’t told Trevor so he was adamant to my mom about black so they bought him black.  Can’t really blame him there.  So he’ll wear black tomorrow for his game and we’ll pick him up some gold ones later.

Saturday

Today marked the first time since my kids have started playing little league (5 years) that I am not involved in any way with either of their teams.  I’m rather pissed about it.  I was asked to be Samantha’s head coach but I had to turn it down due to my stupid 12 hour day work schedule.  I also had to miss both of their first games today which I’ve have rarely missed any of their games in their lifetime.  Needless to say, I was pissy all day.  Cheri did a great job texting me updates of what was going on and they both won their games.  Cheri said they both played well.  Tomorrow, I go back to work.  I hate these 12 hour days, they are even worse when I have to work them Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

---<>---

This is the last Sunday Randomness as the A to Z Challenge will be over on Tuesday.  I still need to write out the last couple.  I’ve stayed up to date for the most part throughout the month.  While it was nice making new friends, I’m kind of looking forward to a more laid back schedule again.  For those newbies here, that’s pretty much I post when I feel like it.

Sunday

Long, slow day at work.  Sunday’s always are between less metal and everyone is wore out from the 3rd straight day of 12 hours.  But the end of the work day means my 2 day work week.  I only work on Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Saturday, April 27, 2013

A to Z Challenge - X

If your new to this Challenge, every day of April, minus the Sundays you blog about the letter assigned for that day. To find out why I’m blogging about what I’m blogging about, then go here. Today’s letter is

I’m curious to see what everybody else’s X words are.  The ones doing movies, I hope they like X-men.

Samantha’s word – X-ray

I’ve had a few of these in my day.  I’ve had all kind of ankle and knee injuries from back when I played basketball, pretty much every day of the week.  I grew up playing sports constantly so needless to say, plenty of injuries.  No broken bones diagnosed but I do wonder about my nose.  I took a knee to it playing football and it bleed profusely and I have a lump on my nose now.  I also had to have arthroscopic surgery on my knee back in high school from a basketball injury.  One of many but it was the worst.  So needless to say, I’ve had many X-rays.

Trevor’s word – Xlephone

Can’t blame Trevor for not being able to spell this one, I had to Google it.  Xylophone is an instrument, that starts with X.  That’s about all I know about it by name.  I want to say it has keys, maybe the thing you see at at high school football games where they use the drumsticks like things to play.  Ok. I actually looked at the Google results and I was right in what I was thinking.
