Cross Post From MSO

This is a post from my sports related blog (My Sports Obsession) but I thought it fit in here as well since it is personal.

I didn't get any cards today, it is a Sunday after all, but yesterday I did some rearranging in my downstairs level. My grandfather died  a few years ago and I grabbed his desk and put it in storage. My wife was in the storage and it was annoying her so I took it out and set it up in the den. I pulled a dresser out as well and kind of made a "man cave" even though it really isn't. It's still a usable room with a couch and TV but nobody really uses it. I also can't leave my cards out all over because I have a stupid cat that likes to chew on cardboard, so I can't even leave the boxes of cards out because she'll chew on the boxes. When it's all said and done, I can only do so much because the room was painted red when we moved in and we never changed it. I'll probably rarely use it but at least I got to move my cards out of storage to where I can access them easier. My books were in the bedroom on a shelf and it gave my wife some of her shelf room back.

Here's is the aforementioned desk. As you can see, it's pretty nice, and huge. You can also see the red walls. The wife and I picked up a few things that could go on the walls and still match, plus I snuck a few things in as well. We'll go left to right on the desk.

This is my stack of magazines, programs, folders, ect. They are acting as my book ends until I can find a decent set that go with the room. The card books shown are (L to R) Tier 3 collections are in the first 2 books, and the last book has my Michigan collection as well as auto's and relics that are team collections and not player collections.

Next to the books, on the desk shelf are 2 bats that came from the Louisville Slugger museum that my mom picked up for me. The helmet was from the greek fries that I got at the last Sox game I went to, earlier this year. There's also my DVD's from the 2005 Sox.

The stuff on the top middle of the desk isn't really anything yet. The lamp was just thrown there to get it out of the way.

If you know my collections, than you are really confused by these 3 items. They were also my grandfathers and my grandmother gave them to me. On the left is a mug commemorating Mark McGwire's race to 70 HR's back in 1998. The middle is a Coke bottle with the St. Louis Cardinals on it and on the right is a Joe Montana beer stein. In case you haven't figured it out, he was a Cardinals fan, and a Notre Dame fan. As much as it pains me to have a ND alumn on my desk, I figured it was ok since he is one of the all-time greats, and he's in a pro jersey.

Beside that shelf and to the far right of my desk are my other card books. (L to R) Paul Konerko Collection, Tom Seaver Collection, the rest of my Tier 1 Collections, and the last 2 books are my Tier 2 Collections. As I said before, I don't have book ends so I'm using my Scott Podsednik bobble head for one on this side.

A little better view of the bobble head, or at least the box. When I get an actual room, I may break it out of the box.

Next, I'll go from left to right up on the wall above the desk

This photo is of myself, my brother and 2 cousins back when we were in little league. My grandmother made these for all 4 of us boys. I'm on the left and Sluggo is the other in yellow for the regulars who may know him by name.

These are above the right side of the desk. We picked these up at Hobby Lobby along with some stuff below.

As you can see, next to the desk is the dresser I pulled out. In the top drawer are my non-collection cards and Baseball Collection, 2nd drawer is full of empty boxes and such, 3rd drawer contains the Vintage Collection and the bottom drawer has my White Sox Collection in it.

Above the desk and dresser are these other 2 from Hobby Lobby. My wife did a pretty good job of picking all this stuff out that went with the walls. That's pretty much just one corner and wall of the room which I have claimed as mine but if you look around the room on shelves and walls, I have other stuff laying around.

There are a few Michigan things, it's hard to put that stuff up because of all the red in the room.

Last but not least, this is above the couch. Another Hobby Lobby pickup by the wife.

I have a bunch of other stuff that I could put up but a lot of it is in boxes in storage and I'm not going to drag all of that up until I actually get my real Man Cave, which will be in a year or 2 when I start kicking kids out and taking one of their rooms. For now, this little corner will do when I need to work on cards (or to be honest, get away from the wife for a bit.)

New Years–2014 Review, part 2

Check out my last post if you haven’t already to see the first part of my 2014 review. Todays part is all be about my blogs and my social media/internet habits.

The other stat I kept last year, and continued this year was how many words written on this blog, let’s take a look as compared to previous years.

000_thumb[1]

004_thumb

As you can see to the left, I posted 35 less posts this year. I was probably on pace to get 200 or so again but the last 3 months only had 3 posts each. I just haven’t been in the blogging mood. The only reason I got as many posts as I did was because for a couple of months, I was blogging a journal entry every day.  I did reach 300,000 words on my 594th post in August of this year and up until this post, I’m showing 634 posts with a total of 321,709 words. I’m not really sure what will become of this blog since I rarely use it anymore. I would like to use it more but I just don’t really have much to say. I seem to be using my tumblr blogs more often, because I don’t really have to say anything. I just repost or post pictures that I enjoy.

We’ll start off with my blogger blogs. Yes, I have more than 1.

zzz-blogbanner04

This blog is sports card related. Mainly baseball cards (yes, I collect them).

zzz-blogbanner12

  • 1192 posts in 2014
  • 0 additional followers in 2014
  • 2957 pageviews in 2014

This is essentially an index of all sports related pictures that I’ve posted to all of My Sports Obsession related blogs and sports related Pinterest boards. I haven’t advertised yet until I get caught up with all my previous posts so that’s why the stats aren’t really anything.

zzz-blogbanner06

  • 164 posts in 2014
  • 5 additional followers in 2014
  • 28709 pageviews in 2014

I’m hoping I don’t need to explain this blog, since you’re on it now.

zzz-blogbanner08

  • 26 posts in 2014
  • 693 pageviews in 2014

This isn’t actually my blog, but I guest post on it. I post anytime I get any University of Michigan related sports cards. I don’t keep track of followers since it isn’t my blog and the stats I have above are related to my posts only.

My next set of blogs are all tumblr blogs. I’m more seen on these because I can queue them up on the weekends to run all week. Plus I don’t have to type anything out, just post or repost pictures.

On this blog, I post, obviously, cats. Every 5th post is a picture of my kitty. Lots of funny cat gifs.

On this blog, it’s sports, all the time. Lots of White Sox and Colts but also a lot of other stuff. Including vintage sports photographs. NBA, NFL, NCAA and MLB.

zzz-blogbanner09

  • 518 posts in 2014

This blog is all Michigan Wolverines. A lot of sports but non-sports also, anything related to the University of Michigan.

Now on to my Twitter stats, and again, yes, I have more than 1. Twitter is annoying in the fact that I have to have a different email address for each account. Unlike blogger and tumblr, where you can just log on once and click which blog you want.

twitter-jccsst1022

  • 4835 new followers in 2014
  • 587 tweets in 2014
  • 131 retweets or favorites in 2014

This is my main and personal account. I tweet out links to my blog posts from this blog and my A Day in the Life of a Nobody blog as well as personal tweets. My Instagram usually posts here as well.

twitter-kitty20101

  • 4441 new followers in 2014
  • 626 tweets in 2014
  • 212 retweets or favorites in 2014

The only thing that gets tweeted out here are blog posts from the Cats Are Cuter blog up above and once in awhile, I’ll retweet Instagram pics of my kitty.

twitter-sportobsession6

  • 4320 new followers in 2014
  • 959 tweets in 2014
  • 117 retweets or favorites in 2014

This blog goes along with the 2 My Sports Obsession blogs listed above as well as I tweet out any sports related tweets that I may have, such as games I’m watching and such.

twitter-msowolverines

  • 4199 new followers in 2014
  • 426 tweets in 2014
  • 60 retweets or favorites in 2014

This blog goes along with the Michigan related blogs above. I also tweet out personal stuff that’s related to the school such as when I’m watching their sports or any other related tweets I may have.

Since we’re already on social media, we’ll continue with that.

pinterest

  • 2603 things pinned (17 different boards).facebook
  • 56 status’ posted in 2014
  • 88 other things posted in 2014
  • 50 personal photos posted in 2014

These stats are from my personal facebook page. As you can see I don’t really post a whole lot compared to a lot of other people.

instagram

  • 50 posts to Instagram

  • AOL – 2422 read emails
  • Gmail – 5187 read emails
  • GMX – 660 read emails
  • Hotmail – 1370 read emails
  • Yahoo – 3259 read emails

Yes, I have 5 email accounts. That’s because of stupid Twitter who you have to have a different email address for each account. The Gmail is the one I use for personal stuff which is why it has more and the yahoo one is the one I use to sign up on websites and newsletters and such.

I guess I should have put this on part 1 since it isn’t really internet related. Oh well.

  • 610 incoming minutes used
  • 766 outgoing minutes used

I have no idea how those are so high because I rarely talk on the phone. I round up so if it was a 10 second phone call, it gets counted as a minute so that’s part of the reason.

  • 2903 texts that were alerts of some kind.
  • 11992 incoming and outgoing texts that were to people I know personally.

I get alerts from my bank, the local sherriff’s department and Google calendar alerts. As well as some others but those are the only ones I can think of at the moment.

The majority of the personal texts are to Cheri, my mom, my brother and Samantha.

So there you go, those are my stats for 2014. Why were you a slacker and not keep stats?

My new project

There hasn’t been anything really going on and I haven’t felt much like blogging so I haven’t.  I’ll try to be better.  It will go with my latest “online” project anyways.

This will sound stupid to a lot of you, if not all, but it’s what I do.  I started a new blog, don’t get excited, only members can view it and I will be very selective as it is all about my family and life.  So if you’re a family member or close friend, ask me and I’ll send you an invite (I’m not expecting anyone to ask, maybe my mom, that would be all that reads this.)  Basically, I’m combining all my social media into one blog.  Here’s the info at the top of the blog.

In a world of everything being online, I'm going to try to compile the life and times of myself from all my social media accounts into 1 place. It's definitely a long term goal and I would like to eventually be caught up to just add daily, but until then, there'll be multiple posts a day. You can check out the labels at the bottom of the page.

First I went to Shutterfly and transferred all my older photos to the new blog.  I tagged them all with the year they were taken and tagged everybody in them.  So I can go to the blog and click on my mom’s name, or grandmothers, and see every photo with them in it.  Or I can click the year and see everything for that year, or just click the photograph label and view only pictures.  I was born in 1973 but my photos start in 1978 and so far, I’m up to 2009.  I also tagged them all with Shutterfly so I know where they are online.  Once I got to 2008, May 22nd, 2008 to be exact (the day I signed up with Facebook), I started to add anything I’ve posted on Facebook.  If it’s a photo I copy it over, if it’s a status, I screen cap it and post it as well.  On March 31st of 2009 (the day I signed up with Twitter), I started adding any tweets from Twitter that I posted.  As I get later in those years, I’ll add other stuff.  Here’s my start dates for all my social media that I may be adding.

socialmedia

I haven’t decided what all I’m going to be adding, I will probably do everything up there but I think for the blogs, I’ll just provide a link rather than the whole content, other than personal photos, we’ll see.  I’m playing it by ear and hoping I have it figured out by the time I start hitting the blogs.

Why am I doing this?  Well for one, it would be nice if it was all centrally located into one spot.  What I’m hoping is when I’m gone (dead) that my kids or family can have a place to come and learn about me.  I realize that this will probably never be an issue but I think because my father died when I was only 8, I only have a few memories and whatever stories I’ve heard about him growing up, I feel like I don’t really know him much.  I guess this is my way of leaving some kind of legacy.  With all the online content that’s being put out there, why not keep all of mine in one spot.

Plugging myself

I just wanted to update or plug all my online activities.  If you don’t care, feel free to ignore this post and wait for the next one.  I’m not going to use pictures and make it all pretty, this post is for informational purposes only.

Blogs (blogger)

  • Random Thoughts From A Random Guy – Pretty much my everything but sports blog.  Book related, movie related, music related, family related and some humor as well.  Last year I posted an average of 4 times a week.  Some weeks more than that, some weeks less.

Blogs (tumblr)

  • A Day In The Life Of A Nobody – This is my personal entertainment blog.  It’s mainly TV and movie stuff.  My top tags are Star Trek, Star Wars, Supernatural, the Big Bang Theory and the Walking Dead if that helps you out any.  I only post a max of 3 times a day, sometimes less depending on how much I have in my queue.
  • Cats Are Cuter – This is an all cat related blog.  It has funny cat gifs and cute cat pictures as well as every 5th picture, is a picture of our Kitty.  I started this blog for my wife because she loves the cat stuff.  I only post a max of 3 times a day, sometimes less depending on how much I have in my queue.
  • My Sports Obsession – I started this blog because I love good sports photography.  I post all kinds of sports related pictures, vintage and current.  I mainly post baseball, basketball and football but if I see something I like, and it’s sports related, it’ll get posted.  I only post a max of 3 times a day, sometimes less depending on how much I have in my queue.
  • My Sports Obsession – Wolverines – When I started the above blog, I was posting a lot of Michigan Wolverines stuff so I decided it needed it’s own blog.  I post only Michigan stuff but from all sports.  I only post a max of 3 times a day, sometimes less depending on how much I have in my queue.

Twitter

  • @kitty20101 – This account just accompanies the above Cats Are Cuter blog.  When it gets posted there, it gets posted here.
  • @jccsst1022 – This is my personal account but I really don’t tweet much.  It’s mostly used to plug my Random Thoughts From A Random Guy blog as well as my A Day In The Life of A Nobody.  My Instagram also posts here but I don’t post to it much either.
  • @sportobsession6 – This account accompanies all my sports related blogs.  They all post here as well as some of my boards on pinterest that are sports related.  I tweet here occasionally as well if it’s sports related.  In other words, this account is sports related.

Facebook

  • I do have a personal account and I will approve friend request from my readers if I’ve had other interaction with you before.  I’m not just going to approve you because you say you read a blog of mine.  If you’ve paid enough attention, you know my name and know how to find me.
  • Cats Are Cuter – This page accompanies the blog of the same name.
  • My Sports Obsession – This page accompanies the sports blogs above.  All of my sports pictures get posted here from the tumblr and pinterest.
  • My Sports Obsession – Wolverines – This page accompanies the Michigan blog above.  This also gets pictures posted from my pinterest as well as all kinds of stuff shared from other Michigan facebook pages.  Once I get more likes (the page just started), I’m hoping to start interacting with other Michigan fans.

Instagram – I post mainly personal stuff but I do throw other items in here.  I do not use my Instagram account to post humor stuff as in meme’s or cartoons.  But I do screen cap some album covers or weather related stuff as well.  Depends on my mood.

Goodreads – This is a book related social site.  Although I don’t really do anything socially but I do keep track of what books I’ve read or am reading.  I have interacted with some authors and even reviewed their books for them.

Google+ – The only thing I use this for is I post links to my 2 blogger blogs.  I’m not a big fan of Google+, the only reason I post to it is because it’s easy to do when I post on my blog.

YouTube – I do have a YouTube channel but for the most part, it’s my kids and stuff like that, nothing really special as far as a reader is concerned.  I did once vlog but I didn’t like how it turned out and haven’t done one since.

Yahoo Contributor – I have posted a few stories to yahoo.  This just takes you to my profile page where you can click on the articles.

I guess that’s about it, feel free to follow me in any of the previous mentioned forums.  I always love to interact with my readers.

Randomness #18

Well, we went to the bank today for another check to see if our credit score is high enough.  You may remember, it was 10 points too low 2 months ago.  It went up a whopping 3 points in that 2 months.  I’m annoyed.  We have 3 credit scores, the top one is over the goal by 22 points, but the other 2 are below by 7 and 27.  They go by your middle score which is 7 below.  Why are all 3 so different and why do you have to use the middle score?  Why can’t they look at how far I’ve brought it up in the last 6 months and look at the fact that I’ve been at the same job for almost 14 years?  Or that Cheri is guaranteed a disability check every month?  She isn’t going to get any better, she’s not going to lose it.  I don’t understand how it HAS to be a certain score.  I’m freaking 40 years old and have never owned a home, I WANT TO OWN A HOME.  I want my kids to have a permanent home for the rest of their lives.  I want to give my wife a single level home because some days the stairs kick her ass.  I want to get the hell away from my sorry excuses of neighbors.  But the only thing that matters to the bankers are that I got divorced awhile ago and theEx screwed my credit up because she doesn’t pay any of her bills.  The majority of the bills I paid off to get my score up was things she was supposed to pay after the divorce, and the minivan that got re-possessed because she wouldn’t pay anything towards it even though she was driving it.  Don’t get me wrong, I understand that a lot of my credit score was my fault.  I didn’t care about my credit for 20 years, but I do now, and I’ve made huge strides on my score, shouldn’t that account for something?  I hate dealing with this crap, it’s as bad as dealing with the stupid insurance companies.

zzz-twittercover01          zzz-twittercover02

I’ve been boosting my Twitter followers by following everyone that follows me back as well as following people that I know follow back.  I’ve added a couple of hundred of followers in the last couple of weeks to both my Random Thoughts Twitter (jccsst1022) and My Sports Obsession Twitter (sportobsession6) accounts.  I’ve also crossed between the 2 accounts as in when I get followed back on one account, I’ll follow from the other.

I originally didn’t like doing that, I figured if they didn’t actually want to read what I was posting then I don’t need the follow.  I’ve started to turn the way I view that practice and thinking the more people that follow, the more people that my tweets are going to.  More exposure per tweet per say.

As far as actually reading all the tweets from all the people I follow.  I use a list and just have the actual people I want to follow on that list and that’s all I check.  I also have some people that their tweets go to my phone via text as well.  I follow a lot of blogs but I don’t follow their blogs via twitter, I use a rss reader for that so if they only post actual blog updates to their twitter, then I don’t really follow them.  I mainly follow a couple of family and friends, and then some people who are inside the White Sox and Michigan organizations who post updates and links to articles about those teams and school.

That picture was a screencap off my phone that I posted on Instagram over 3 weeks ago, along with this caption “For all those kids who told me to get a life. I got 100+ now. #CandyCrush #WhosLaughingNow”,  Before I talk about this, be assured, I’m not addicted to the stupid game.  The majority of the time that I play it, I’m sitting on the crapper.  Figure it out yet (you should from the pic above), that’s right, candy crush.  Like I said, I play it but not all that often.  Sometimes I’ll go a few days without playing it.  If your not familiar with the game, you only get 5 lives when you log in, when those 5 are out, you get 1 every half an hour.  But you can ask friends for additional lives plus the game will ask other players on your behalf.  Well, since I hardly ever play it, I built up quite a few extra lives because I rarely go past the 5 they start you with.  Maybe if I ate more Taco Bell I could sit in there longer and play, who knows?  This morning, neither Cheri and I could log it in through Facebook (which is where you get your lives through).  I didn’t think anything of it, it’s happened before.  But this afternoon when I finally logged in, all of my 160+ lives I had saved up were gone.  Stupid game.  Not that I ever used them but I collected them all just the same.  Ok, this is more of a post to brag that I was closing in on 200 extra lives for all the addicted ones.  Like my wife, cousin and my aunt.  Which my wife would be the only one who reads the blog but still, I can pretend I’m rubbing it in their faces.

So on the way home from picking Samantha up from cross country, I get behind my mom just after she left work.  I pulled up behind her at the light, noticed her and the kids and I waved and got no reaction.  So I honked the horn a few times, nothing.  So when we got through the light, I stayed behind her because we were coming up on a construction site that takes everything down to 2 lanes.  I swerved back and forth (within my lane), nothing.  Part of the construction goes under a train track so while we were stuck in line under it, I angled towards the center line and kept flashing my lights at her, nothing.  So I followed her home and pulled up in her driveway and asked her “Do you ever use your rear view mirror?”  Her response “No.”  Well I guess at least she knows she doesn’t.  That also explains why she’s only been pulled over by the cops once in her life.  She just never sees them and they eventually get tired of following her and waiting for her to pull over.  I also know she doesn’t text and drive since she never responded to my text that said “Look behind you".

Randomness #6

I feel like a slacker.  I haven’t posted here since Monday, but that happens on this blog occasionally.  What makes me a real slacker is I hadn’t posted on My Sports Obsession since Wednesday.  Why does that make me a slacker?  Because I actually have completed draft posts saved up for that blog and I still hadn’t posted until just before I started typing this.  I just haven’t been in the mood.  I even let my Tumblr posts run out and I usually have those queued up for a week or so.  I suck.

On my work days, I’d get home, shower, eat and then spend the evening in front of the tv, barely even touching my laptop.  So I guess you could say I haven’t been in the mood to do anything.  We did get fully caught up on the DVR from being gone all weekend though so that’s one thing.  But now we’ve been renting movies all weekend from the Redbox because we were caught up.  We watched “Seven Psychopaths” and “Taken 2” last night.  This afternoon and evening we’ve watched “Ted”, “Pitch Perfect” and are watching “Alex Cross” at the moment and will probably watch “Bourne Legacy” later tonight.  I know, we lead such an exciting life.

zzz-ecard07

My latest ecard creation.

Last night, I took my kids to supper, then Samantha and I went to see her cousin at pep band.  If you follow my Instagram, you saw the picture when I posted it during supper.

aa

That was at Arby’s because we are high class in this family.  But I’m showing you this picture so I can show you the first take when I was trying to get it.

a

Just as I go to click the button, Samantha goes “wait, I got something in my teeth” and starts digging in with her nail.  Ain’t she beautiful.  Anyways, we went to a high school basketball game but we were mainly there to see her cousin (technically my ex-niece) play in the pep band.  I’ve said before that I talk and hang out with theEx’s sister still.  Well, her daughter has been texting me recently too.  Which I love.  As much as I don’t like to be around theEx anymore, I do miss her family.  They were my family for 13 years so I guess that’s to be expected, but I didn’t really think the nieces would remember me because they were younger and I haven’t been around them for a few years now.  So I was surprised to receive texts from her and even more surprised that she’s been inviting me to come watch her play.  So that’s what Samantha and I did last night.  Then Samantha had girl scouts this morning and then again tomorrow night so it’s a busy weekend with a lot of sitting around in between.

One thing I have been doing lately is constantly checking my blogs for spam.  Both of them have been pounded lately.  It’s nice to see my stats on certain posts rise but I expect that they it is mainly spammers adding to that.  I did cross a couple of milestones recently on both blogs.  I’ve reached 200 posts on this blog as well as reaching my 2 year anniversary yesterday.  This is actually post 202 so I reached it last week.  It also crossed 20,000 pageviews a few days ago.  My Sports Obsession passed 600 posts last week as well as 40,000 pageviews.  Maybe reaching those milestones is the reason I’ve been spanked with spam lately.  Most of you don’t know (because you don’t leave comments) that I just use the spam filter, I don’t use the captcha crap because I hate trying to read it.  The filter does pretty good, it stops 95% of the spam but I get an e-mail from blogger with EVERY comment, even spam comments.  It would be nice if the emails said that it stopped it for spam but all it says is there was a comment and I have to go to the blog post to see if it got posted.  This blog has had 34 spam comments in February, but 17 of those have come in the last week.  My Sports Obsession has had 15 this month and only 5 in the last week so it’s something on this blog that has gotten the attention of the spammers.  Particularly the post “Kids and Social Media” has been nailed.  It posted on January 28th, less than a month and it is already my 3rd most read post all time.  Like I said above, spammers are giving me nice blog stats.

In case you haven’t noticed, I don’t talk about working out anymore.  Because I got lazy again.  I think if I could do it most everyday, I would stick to it more.  The problem is, I can’t work out on the days I work and when I work a weekend, it’s 3 days straight of not working out.  Apparently that was all it took to get me to stop.  So I guess I’ll just have to get use to the fact that I’m fat.  I’ll have to come to the fact that the only 6 pack I’ll ever own is of Mountain Dew.  Oh wait, I don’t buy pop anymore.  I won’t even have one of those.

I guess I had more to say than I thought.  Maybe I should make myself do a blog post every few days.  Apparently if I sit down and make myself type something out that I can.  I’m sure it will be nothing exciting but then again, only spammers read my blog anyways.  I know they read it because they always say so in their comments.  They would never lie, everything on the internet is true.
