Senior Discount

So yesterday, they let us off work at 11 as we were caught up and coming into a holiday weekend. I grabbed my lunch box and headed home but Taco Bell was calling me more than the leftover pizza in my lunch box so I ran through the drive thru. I ordered 4 Steak Soft Tacos and a small Mountain Dew. She said my total was $12 something.

I pulled up to the window after waiting my turn. I hold my debit card out when I pull up and the cashier glances at me but goes back to her register. I just figured she was taking someone else's order. She finally turns to me and as she's taking my debit card, she says it's $11 something, seniors get drinks for free. Now, it took me a minute to realize what she said and what she meant. I would have corrected her but hey, it's a free drink and I figured she owed me after telling me that she thinks I'm 10 years older than what I am.

However, upon coming home and Googling that the Taco Bell senior discount is for those 65 and up, I'm thinking she should have given me my whole meal free for saying I was 20 years older than what I am.

Now I know when I haven't shaved my head recently, I look a little older than I am, and it has been about a week since I shaved it but I don't know about looking 65 years old. There are days where my body feels like it's 65 years old, but not look that old.

Lots of Snow

6 posts in 4 days, including 4 days in a row, I must be dreaming. You could say I'm kicking ass in the resolution this year, even though it wasn't really a resolution.

When I left this morning, I pulled out onto the main road off our neighborhood and went to accelerate and my tires just spun because it was pure ice. So right then and there, I decided that I was going to take the main roads all the way to work. Normally I take back roads but for the first time, I deemed the roads unsafe and drove through town. The roads were much better that way and I realized it only took me about 5 minutes longer than usual so that worked out.

Pretty boring day, had all kinds of problems with the line running again but I had stuff to do with the tanks so I was good. Plus I got to kill some time eating a donut and filling out an anonymous survey about the company.

I've decided that I just must be getting old because all the people I work with have a good time, joking around and such but I just don't think a lot of what they say is all that funny. I'm all for cutting up and goofing off but it just isn't my kind of humor. Don't get me wrong, I like everyone I work with and get along with them. I just find myself standing with the group with a big smile like I'm laughing but I'm not. It's really bad in the morning meeting but I think a lot of that is I'm just not awake yet. I work with a bunch of mid 20's employees but they are actually the ones I get along with for the most part.

They posted that we were working Saturday because of all the issues with the lines. No biggy, I have a vacation day for Monday already so I still get a 2 day weekend. I have to go back to court so the judge can continue to tell me that theEx doesn't have to pay support.

I got off, headed home (took the back roads) and picked up Samantha to run her to a friends house then back home for my shower. Just as I was getting out of the shower, my phone rings and it's my mom asking me to run to my grandma's house and measure her doorstep for a ramp because she'll be going home in a wheelchair, hopefully tomorrow. We got all that figured out and my uncle just happened to show up which worked out because he had a garage door opener and I was able to get her shovel out and do her sidewalk and driveway before I left. Now when I was out shoveling, it wasn't snowing and it was decent, except for being very cold.

I leave and start heading home, I get just up the road and all of the sudden, the snow is just coming down with big flakes (lake effect).

I posted that and once I turned off the North/South rode, it just stopped. Usually lake effect isn't that patchy, it tends to lighten up the further you get away from Lake Michigan but not patchy. It was just weird.

I got home and proceeded with our usual ritual of chilling in our recliners. Nothing exciting. As I was researching my driving for this post, I found out the main roads are actually about 5 miles shorter which would explain why it didn't take me much longer even though it's much slower and a lot more traffic. We'll see how bad the roads are tomorrow. It's still supposed to snow through tomorrow night, possibly 4-8 more inches but we all know how accurate the weather can be.

I'm just old

I haven't had a lot to say lately. Some of it is that there just isn't much going on, other is I just don't take the time to put anything into words. Plus, it's baseball season and I tend to focus more on my sports card related blogs.

I started playing softball again, we've played 3 games so far and are 2-1. I'm the pitcher, which is the reason they asked me to play for the church team. I've only walked 1 batter in 3 games so I'm doing what the asked me to do. My daughter, Samantha, plays as well but tends to struggle, she claims she's not used to slow pitch, and that she doesn't like to play in front of people. I think it's her lack of competitiveness, which I truly don't understand. When I played sports, I wanted to be the best out there. I was never flashy, but I was a fundamentally sound player. I took pride on not making mistakes and being a good team player. I still play that way but my body doesn't allow me to be the best on the field anymore so I have relaxed my competitiveness and just have fun.

not my knees

The day before our first game, my right knee started to hurt. I had surgery on it back in high school (25+ years ago) so I'm familiar with knee issues but I couldn't figure out why it hurt and why I didn't remember doing anything to it, it just started to hurt. After consulting with some people, mainly my mom, I think I have it diagnosed. Arthritis. Like I didn't feel old enough, that now I have to deal with arthritis but at least now I know what it is because that first game I was very hesitant to do anything, afraid it was an injury and I didn't want to make it worse. Now I just play through it since I know it's just pain and it's not going to damage anything. The right knee hasn't bothered me since that first couple of days 3 weeks ago but now I'm having issues with my left knee. I don't know if it's arthritis (I do believe I have that on that knee as well) related or not. My knee gets to the point where I have to straighten it to pop the kneecap, and when it pops, it hurts.

So basically, I'm just old.

The worst part of the knee issues is that there are some days where I'm cramped up in my forklift at work for long periods and when I go to get off, I can barely walk until it stretches out some. It's ridiculous how old I have been feeling as of late.

I have probably popped more Ibuprofen this past week than I have most of my life. I don't generally pop pills at every twinge, most of the time I just ride out the pain because I know it'll go away, but not now. My mom suggested Naproxen for the arthritis and I finally picked up some and popped my first ones last night before bed. My knee was better when I woke up so I'm guessing it did it's thing but we'll see.

I'd like to say that I'm going to get back here and post more often but I'm not promising anything. We have done a few things to the home that maybe I can post about, if I ever get around to it. I also still where the fitbit and while I have good days, I have outgrown the "going out of my way for steps" stage. Plus, there's always theEx and JackAss drama, not as much anymore, but it's still there.

We'll see if I can continue to post. Until then...
