Randomness

For those that don’t know, I tend to get to work usually around a quarter till and I sit in my car until about 5 till before I go in.  I’d rather sit alone, listening to music, then sit in the break room and be annoyed by everyone in there.  I was sitting in my car the other day, watching people going in, and I see Ricky go by.  Now Ricky wears a sweatshirt to work every day, and I mean every day.  Remember when I posted about the heat at work, yeah, even those days he wears sweatshirts.  Back on those hot days of summer, I asked him why he wore them.  His answer “I’m usually cold”.  Considering it was over 100 degrees at the time, I just walked away.  If your still cold and it’s over 100 degrees, you have some medical issues you need to get taken care of.  Anyways, back to the story.  I was sitting in the car and Ricky goes by, with his usual sweatshirt on, with the sleeves pulled up to his elbow.  Wait, what?  You tell me your cold all the time, but here you are, where it is currently under 20 degrees, with your sleeves pulled up, and gloves on.  If it isn’t a medical condition, it’s a mental condition.

Kids came home with their report cards.  Those all looked great.  Since they are still in elementary school, their report cards still come with 1, 2, 3, 4 grades.  Both had all 3’s & 4’s.  3 is meeting standards, 4 is above standard.  Samantha had a few 2’s on her last report card, so that she got them all up to 3’s says a lot.  They also came home with these.

The ones on the left are Samantha’s, the one on the right is Trevor’s.  They both got Perfect Attendance award (they got it the first quarter as well).  But Samantha came home with the 4-star award.  Those 4 stars stand for Responsibility (All assignments on time), Behavior (No discipline referrals), Academics (all 3 or 4 stars), Effort (daily personal best).  That award came as a shocker because she is the one that we usually have to worry about.  If I had to guess, the only thing stopping Trevor from getting that award was he got a 1 on neatness (I’m guessing his handwriting), while it is legible, it’s definitely not neat.  I’m extremely proud of Sam, it’s a definite improvement.

I’m a little bummed because I was supposed to go to Ann Arbor tomorrow and attend a card show.  I was going to meet a fellow card blogger up there.  They don’t have crap for shows around here, that should be obvious since I was willing to spend 5 hours (round trip) just to go to one.  But between money and weather, it just wasn’t ideal.  I’ll get up to one sooner or later.  I might be heading down to see my cousin in a little over a month and where he lives, they have card shows every other week.  But, of course, the weekend I’m going is the off weekend.  Such is my life.

trade-dennis08

I’m on my 3 day weekend, and now that I’m not going to A2, I have no plans.  But to keep my ass in the apartment and stay warm.  I’m already having problems getting to the gym.  I didn’t go today, but it’s mainly because I just don’t want to go outside.  We’ll see if I go tomorrow.  I may just stay home and do nothing.  Maybe blog a little.  Maybe.

My Kind of Humor #6

I worked today so I’m just going to throw this out there.  These all came from my Random Thoughts from a Random Guy Facebook page so if your not following along, you could be missing out.

humor01 i dont run

I want one of these for my vehicle.  I see the number all over other vehicles bragging about their run so I should be able to brag that I’m a fat, lazy ass.

zzz-ecard03

I created this while watching one of those Real Housewives shows (the wife had the remote).  That’s all they do on those shows is argue, and there is always one that once it gets heated, she repeats the same phrase over and over, at the top of her lungs.

humor02 car gas mileage

So true.  It cracks me up when people will drive to the other side of town to save $.02 a gallon.  This is along those same lines.

humor03 internet explorer sucks

That is exactly the only thing I use it for.  IE sucks, if you still use it, I have to wonder about your sanity.

humor04 tortoise and the hare

That’s just funny.

humor06 bathroom push

That’s even funnier.  Everyone needs a little encouragement when getting down to business.

humor07 jesus came

Now that is love, or lust.  I’m not sure what it is.  Creepy, maybe?

humor08 stop poop one way

I don’t know about you, but I only poop one way.

humor09 walmart axe idiots

I loved this when I saw it, I hate how the kids speak now-a-days.  It’s even worse trying to read a text or status on Facebook.

humor10 someone care not

This is me.  I mean, not to you, I do care.  Really.

WWW Wednesday #3

WWW_Wednesdays4

To play along, I’m supposed to answer 3 easy questions.

What are you currently reading?

No One to Hear You Scream

No One to Hear You Scream by Julia Madeleine

I’m barely into this one so I don’t have much to tell you yet.

What did you recently finish reading?

Reunion

Reunion by Jeff Bennington

I really enjoyed this book.  The beginning takes place 20 years before with a school shooting and you follow a few of the students through that day.  Then 20 years later they felt led to have a reunion and they go back to the school that has been shut down ever since the shooting.  Along with dealing with the emotions of returning the scene of that fateful day, they have to deal with another killer, or is it the same one?

I liked this story because of the supernatural feel towards it.  I’m really getting into those kinds of books more rather than the just thrillers.  I still enjoy them but not as much as I like the supernatural stuff.

Almost Kings

Almost Kings by Max Doty

This was a good book as well.  It follows a high school senior and his younger brother who is a freshman.  The younger brother looks up to his big brother and wants to be just like him.  Until he starts become one of the gang, the Kings, and he starts to see what they are really into and where it can lead.

This is more of a drama and not what I normally read, but I enjoyed it all the same.  It had a bit of a dark side to it which made it enjoyable.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Ever After (The Hollows, #11)

This would be the only series I skip my usual OCD and read it.  I believe it just came out yesterday, I haven’t checked my kindle to see if it’s there.  I had pre-ordered it awhile ago.  I love the Hallows series and this is the 11th book in the series.  It follows the life and jobs of Rachel Morgan who is considered a witch but grows into something much more powerful.  She is on the good side of things even though most think differently.  She is a runner, who is like a freelance federal agent but her cases all involve the supernatural beings after the turn.  It is a great series, I believe the genre is Urban Fantasy.  This is my all time favorite series and I look forward to each one before it comes out.  Put it this way, I’m going to set aside more time to finish the book that I’m reading just to get to this one.

TheEX and the JackAss, episode 12

How hard is it to be on time?  I’m getting so sick of waiting around for theEx and the JackAss because they can’t be on time.  This used to be a real issue when those 2 first got together but it got corrected.  Now they seem to be reverting back to being tardy all the time.  Now, if you know me, I hate to be late.  I think it’s rude and it makes you look like your time is more important than whoever else’s your meeting.  If the weather is bad, you leave earlier.  I’m almost always early meeting them because I have to cross a set of railroad tracks and I leave a little early just in case.  So when there isn’t a train, I’m usually at a minimum, 5 minutes early.

It started when the JackAss was supposed to drop Samantha off at Girl Scouts a few Saturdays ago.  I told him she had to be there at 9:15 (the troop leader told me 9:30).  It was such an issue just to get them to agree to take her because it was on a weekend.

06     08     07

The first one I’m telling her about the scout outing, the 2nd one is the copy of the FB post about it, so she could see when it was posted.  The 3rd one is just her bitching.

09     10     11

1st one, still explaining what’s going on (my phone duplicated a message, it does that).  There was a phone call there and she said that the JackAss would take her.  So I let the troop leader know.  The 2nd and 3rd you’ll like.  She really has to ask what my problem with him is, in case your new here, click the following word - JackAss.

12     13     14

1st one, she’s still bitching.  The 2nd one I told her the troop leader had already paid for her and she owed her $5.  3rd one, still bitching but now she’s going again.  It’s like a rollercoaster when all I needed was a yes or no.

15     16

The 1st one is affirming that she’s going.  Then the morning of the event, I got the bottom text saying she may not be going.  Then in the 2nd one, again, she is going.  How hard is it to answer a yes or no question.  The worst part of all this,  he ended up dropping her off at 9:45.  She was supposed to be there by 9:30 and I told him 9:15.  I had told the troop leader to leave if she wasn’t on time but they waited and ended up being late for everything.  When they got back, the troop leader called me and told me that he called her phone when he was late and left a voicemail saying that he, as a parent, should have her phone number.  Did you catch that?  He called her and bitched that he didn’t have her number.

On Friday, the JackAss was an hour late picking up Trevor at the apartment.  Then we agreed to meet at a place a lot closer to her place on Saturday to drop off Samantha after a scouts thing if she agreed to drop them off on Sunday at my place again.  So we drive all the way out there, and sit, and wait.

18

I sent the first message at 5:06 saying that she had 4 minutes left.  We are almost to their freaking house and they still can’t be on time.  You can see their response, and mine.  They got there at 14 minutes after, I was 1 minute away from leaving.  And then she bailed on dropping them off at the apartment on Sunday and I had to meet her Monday morning.

And people wonder why I hate people that don’t think of others.  I tried to explain to Samantha why being late is rude, I just hope it sank in.

Since I’m talking about them, I’ll go ahead and post this conversation as well so you can see what I’m dealing with.

19     20     21

This was after Cheri had throw out her back and it hurt for her to drive.  So I asked theEx to either meet me after work or drop them off at the apartment.  First message at 10:53, next one at 1:58 (3 hours later).  And if you notice the response to the 2nd one, you see where they put u instead of you, that means it isn’t even theEx I’m talking to, it’s the JackAss.  I respond and then still get no response.  An hour later I have to text again trying to get an answer.  I guess who finally responds, yep, the JackAss again.  He finally gets theEx on the phone and I get my immediate response.  Although the JackAss was apparently deleting her messages as you can tell by the continued conversation.

I’m sure people have it worse with their Ex’s but all I know is, mine is a pain in the ass, or rather her JackAss is.

Thoughts on suicide

“I stare at the door, trapped in a dream
Held like a captive by what people see on the outside
They don't really know me
And even with you, I deny what is real
The loving truth is a painful touch, when guilt is all you feel
I want to run away, you've got to help me stay”

- Russ Taff (Healing Touch)

I used to write those lyrics on my folders and papers when I was in school.  It was a song I really enjoyed, but deep down, I wanted someone to think I was depressed.  Was I depressed, I suppose, to an extent.  But I mainly did it for the attention.  The sad thing is, I don’t remember anybody even asking about it.  I suppose that’s why I wanted someone to notice me, because nobody did.  Maybe deep down, that’s why I wore Christian T-shirts and carried a bible.  Just to be noticed.

<<< My senior picture.

I wasn’t one of those kids who acted stupid or did crazy things for attention.  I just wanted people to notice me, as in myself, who I was.  But I was a quite kid with a white man’s afro and big glasses.  I was taller then everyone else and probably close to the skinniest in my class as well.  I was awkward.  I had all the confidence in the world in my abilities, but I had no self esteem.  Nobody liked me, I had very few friends and no friends from school that I hung out with.

Did I ever think about suicide?  No, I can honestly say it never crossed my mind.  As much as I hated my life at school, I had a good home life and I belonged to a local club that I was popular at.  Those offset my school life.  But why am I posting this about suicide?   It all started when I was a Junior in high school.  Along with that local club, I went to the church next door and got to know a lot of families.  I worked a lot with the youth group so I got to know the kids.  A friend of mine received letters from the younger girls all the time, they had crushes on him.  And in one of those letters, a girl mentioned that another girl had thought about suicide.  I knew the family pretty well but I didn’t know the girl very well.  She was only in 5th or 6th grade so I hadn’t hung out with her much.

So I befriended her.  I never brought up what I had heard, just became friends.  She didn’t like her home life, she felt like she was lost in her own family.  That she didn’t get much attention and that she couldn’t hold up to the “perfect” standards that her parents had set forth.  I pretty much became her big brother, I’d take her and her younger sister out to the park or playground, we’d hang out at her house and watch TV.  We used to just sit and read different books.  Like I said, I became a big brother.  We talked, a lot.  About growing up, about her family, about school and I listened.  That was really all this girl wanted was for someone to listen.

But that wasn’t how it looked on the outside.  People talked about my relationship with this “kid”.  Even her parents had pulled me aside and in their own way, said they were uncomfortable with me hanging out with her.  Said I should hang out with kids my own age.  They didn’t fear for their daughter, they knew me well enough to know she wasn’t in any danger.  The family did know me pretty well.  I even house sat for them and took care of their dogs when they left town so there was a level of trust.  But I never told anyone why I was there.

But I got pretty close to most of the family and they let me hang out on a daily basis.  But I was mainly there to keep an eye on that one kid.  Because I couldn’t imagine someone that age mentioning suicide.  I was with this family for over a year and did lots of different stuff with them.  School functions, band concerts, had pizza with them every Sunday.

Eventually this family took in one of my friends from the same club I went to who had his own family issues and he became a big brother to her and I feel that he replaced me, I gradually drifted away from their lives.  Eventually I drifted from the church and the club.  While I still see these people every so often, it isn’t the same.  She is on my Facebook friends list but she never posts anything.  I haven’t talked to her in many years.  But she’s grown up and married and I think even has a kid of her own.

Did she ever mention suicide?  Not to me.  Did she ever think about suicide?  I don’t know.  But regardless if she did or not, I want to think that I helped her through a tough time.  And sometimes that’s all these people need is someone to listen to.  Next time you see that loner, maybe think twice about saying hi.  It really could be as simple as that.

Jeff Laws

This was the first time Cheri used one of the automatic chair thingy’s.  We have a wheelchair for her if we are going to be shopping for awhile but with all the spasm issues, she decided to use this.  It was a little scary at the start.  I stayed behind her at all times.

We bought kitty an automatic laser pointer for Christmas that we turn on and it moves a laser light across the floor.  Cheri was talking about it and actually spelled the word light so kitty didn’t hear.

Cheri took this of me the other night.  She’s just jealous because kitty crawls up and lays on me most evenings.

Yeah, I had to take a picture of that when I saw it.  If I didn’t know what it was supposed to say, I would have never known what it was supposed to be.  I would have guess a foreign language or something.

It’s always sad when you lose a sports figure, but it’s even worse when it was a Hall of Famer and an icon.
