Randomness #21

I just realized it’s been over 2 weeks since I posted something that wasn’t a weekly meme.  I suck, but nobody really reads this anyways.  To prove it, I’ll admit to something I did this week.  I kind of started writing a book.  Only 4 chapters, but I did start one.  I also have a few ideas for other books but taking the time to write them will be the issue.

I get about 100 pageviews a day, but I know most of those go to a certain post that has pictures of woman on it.  I regret copying that over to my blog.  I would delete it but at least with a 100 page views, I feel like someone is listening, even if they aren’t.

At this point, I’m just trying to get through this long work week because next week I only have to work 1 day.  Oh yeah, it’s also Christmas.  I’m excited to see how happy the kids will be when they open their new tablets.  They are just cheapies, but it’ll be their first big test for electronics for them.  Trevor will probably just play video games on it, Samantha will be the one I have to keep an eye on.  I already have the tablets set up that I get an email every time they download an app.  I’m a little worried about them having access to the internet but they are both good kids and I don’t think either of them would do anything they weren’t supposed to but I’ll keep an eye on them regardless.

Cheri went to town the last month or so making treats to sell at the kids school system for the girl’s basketball team.  We set up a table at the arts and crafts show and tried to sell what she made.  Everybody loved the stuff but we didn’t sell as much as we thought we would.  Of course, Cheri went way overboard with everything she made but she made some awesome treats.  We did come out ahead with what she sold but a lot was due to our family buying stuff.  I had fun helping her sell it though (don’t tell her).  We spent the whole morning setting up, selling, and tearing down.  You can check out her treats on her Facebook page, check out the photos and be sure to like it while you’re there.

I haven’t posted about theEx or the JackAss recently.  That’s mainly because he has finally given up harassing us.  That might have to do with all his medical issues or as we call it, karma.  He has been going from hospitals to nursing homes.  I’m not going into all that because to be honest, I just don’t care.  TheEx on the other hand has gone from living in her duplex, to living with her mother, now they are staying at a hotel and supposedly getting ready to move into a rental farm house.  But what really annoys me is they are taking advantage of their church.  The kids have gotten clothes and food from them, and now, I hear, they are furnishing her new house.  Meanwhile, every time the kids are over at her place for the weekend, they go out to eat.  They had Golden Corral on their way home after the church delivered their furniture.  There is a reason we don’t go out much with the kids, it’s expensive for 4 people to eat out.  But I guess since she only pays $27/week child support, she can afford it.  As far as we go, they’ve annoyed us here and there.  Mainly not giving Trevor his pills over the weekends but I’ve complained about that here before.

I’ve been thinking about cutting the cord as it’s called.  Ditching cable and just going with Netflix and Hulu+ to watch all my TV.  When I came home, I was leaning towards ditching it, but after getting on Hulu and checking out what all is there, I’m leaning on keeping cable.  There are a lot of shows that I watch that weren’t listed or that I had to watch on another site.  So right now, the convenience of just checking the DVR is winning out over having to keep track of everything I watch and what website I watch it on.  Which really sucks because it would have save me a fortune.  Of course, my mom and brother would have to take me in every Saturday during the Michigan football season, but they won’t mind.  If they do, I have keys to both their houses and I know when they work.

Hulu does have a free week with sign up so maybe I’ll check it out next week and see.

I guess that’s about all for now, I’m in the middle of my 5 day work week and at 12 hour days, I don’t know how much I’ll be on this week.  But like I said in the top paragraph, nobody reads this anyways so you won’t notice.

My Kind of Humor #15

Time for another edition of My Kind of Humor.  These were all posted on my Random Thoughts Facebook page at one time or another.

I hate those stick figure stickers so I love this.

Flashback Fridays #14

It’s been brought up recently so I figured I’d talk about it.  I was a pretty good kid, I didn’t drink, I didn’t do drugs (still never have) and I wasn’t out partying.  If I wasn’t at home, I was at my friend Marshalls, at Lifeline shooting hoops, or at church.  My mom didn’t have to worry about me, at least in that sense.  I did do something that she tried to stop and couldn’t, something that could have gotten me kicked out of school (it almost did).  I skipped school, a lot.

I hated school, I hated how I was treated (either negatively or ignored), I HATED school.  But even more than my hatred for school, was my hatred for getting up in the morning.  I liked to stay up late, and therefore was not ready to get up when the alarm went off.  So when I hit Junior High, I started staying home, usually on Mondays.  After staying up late on Friday and Saturday night (usually just sitting in my room, playing with my baseball cards), I wouldn’t be able to go to sleep at a decent hour on Sunday night so I wouldn’t fall asleep till 4ish.  Instead of forcing myself up out of bed (like I did on Tuesday mornings) I just wouldn’t go.

I was the first person to leave in the morning but my bedroom was the only one in the basement.  So I would get up, get ready and then, just before the bus would come by, I would yell to my mom that I was leaving, open and shut the front door and sneak back down to my room.  Now, because my brother would come into my room at times when he was up and getting ready for school, I couldn’t just crawl into bed.  So I would hide.  Do you remember waterbeds?  Do you remember when they would have a shelf for a headboard?  Do you remember the little crawl space under that shelf?

Not my bed, but you get the idea.  See the crawlspace under the shelf?  I would grab a pillow and back myself into that crawlspace and fall asleep.  Guess it was a good thing I didn’t snore.  Eventually, I would wake up after my brother and mom would leave.  I would go upstairs, crawl into my mom’s bed and fall back asleep.  Why my mom’s bed?  Because it had a phone next to it (this was before cellphones young’ens) and when the school would get around to doing attendance, they would attempt to call my mom at home.  I would wake up to the phone, answer it, tell them in my surprised voice “Oh, she must have forgotten to call in, I’ll call her at work and have her give you a call.”  Then I would go back to sleep.  When I actually did go to school, I would be the first one home so in a few days, I’d get off the bus, grab the mail, and throw away the letter from the school to my mom to tell her that I wasn’t at school.

I got caught here and there, my mom would find out but by my final year of Junior High, I had it mastered.  I bet I went to school on a Monday only two or tree times all year.  That didn’t include the days later in the week that I didn’t go.  I missed a crap load of school and they did nothing about it.  The bad part was, I got bored sitting at home by myself all the time.  So I started to talk my brother into it and we would both skip.  We had a few skipping stories, like the time my aunt stopped by and we snuck up on the roof until the bus went by and pretended to just get home.  But the most famous story we have when we skipped school was when we got a visitor to the door.  We were sitting on the living room floor, playing Monopoly when the door bell rang.  I snuck over to the door and looked out the peephole to see my Vice Principal standing there.  There was no choice but to open it since he knew we were home.  Apparently, the school got wise and called my mom at work and offered to go pick us up.  So the VP and my guidance counselor took my brother to school (Elementary) then took me to Junior High.

The next year, I started High School and they kept track a lot better than Junior High did.  Eventually it got to the point where they pulled my mom and me in the office and they told us if I missed another day that I would get expelled.  So I didn’t miss another day, I would show up for the first 3 hours and then walk out and drive home.  I was (and still am) stubborn so I kept doing it.  While I didn’t really get into much more trouble for it anymore, I had to cut way back on how often I skipped.

One of the things I hate about the new rules of schools is that the parents can get into trouble if their kids aren’t in school.  My mom did everything she could to get me to go everyday, but she was a single mother who had to work.  She didn’t know I was under my bed, she would check my room to make sure I wasn’t there.  There is no way she should have gone to jail because I was skipping school.  I understand the law because there are parents who don’t care and let their kids skip school but that doesn’t mean all of them are bad parents.

I gave this 4 stars, I enjoyed it.  A mother turned vampire does what she can to protect her son from being turned.  What will she have to do and what exactly has she become?

Demonworld (Demonworld #1) by Kyle B. Stiff

I gave this 3 stars.  I didn’t really find much fault with it, I just had trouble getting into the story itself, but I can’t pinpoint why.  I did enjoy the final fight scene at the end though.  It wasn’t a horrible book, it just didn’t connect with me.

I let you make of that list what you will.  There are a couple of classical music mixed in there.  I told you that I listen to almost everything.  Not too much new stuff up there, but you should recognize a few of the artists.

In this section, I randomly choose an artist from above and show all the songs I have on my playlist.  I used Random.org, put the numbers 1-20 and click random 3 times, the number 18 came up at the top which would be Janet Jackson in accordance to the list above.

There is 11 songs up here but technically, I have 12 Janet Jackson songs because I also have Scream with Michael Jackson but it’s listed with him first.  Most of them I know because I lived in the 80’s, but I did have the Janet album in 1993.  Of course, I was 20 years old and part of the reason I loved that album was because of the photograph inside.

None of her songs really stick out to me, I really liked the music more than the lyrics.  It’s the kind of music I could dance to, well, you know, in private, because I can’t dance at all.
