Losing weight, slowly

So, since I got a new Fitbit for Christmas and I was playing around with, I noticed it has a food and water tracker. I already knew it did, my old did as well, but this one I can actually add on the device so I don't have to remember everything. It also has a weight tracker and when I was putting my weight I played with the weight loss portion and it said if I keep the calorie intake in the green that I could lose weight. I set it up to lose 50 lbs, by November.

I know that sounds pretty easy to do in 11 months but let's face it, while I am pretty overweight, I'm also very healthy. I have some aches and pains that I hope will subside with the weight loss but I also realize that I'm closing in on 50 years old so I'm probably still going to have those. I'm not a diabetic, nor do I have high blood pressure. As a matter of fact, the only issue I have are my work pants are starting to get a little snug. If I need to prove that I'm healthy than here you go, I had perfect attendance at work last year. I get 2 personal days to use anytime I call in, I used them during our Christmas break so I could get paid during the time off.
So losing weight by November isn't that big of a deal because I'm not losing weight because of health problems but rather, just because I'm fat. So my goal is to keep my calorie intake in the green (it measure how much I eat compared to how much I burn) and drink more water. It doesn't seem like much but I do tend to overeat and I don't drink much water so they are both necessary anyways.

The real reason that I'm choosing to lose weight this way is because I like what I eat and I hate exercise. It's not that I can't exercise, it's that I don't enjoy it. I don't like working out, I don't like even going for a walk without a reason so. I have other things I'd rather be doing. So this is what I'm going to try and see if it works out.
Besides, it's unhealthy to lose weight to fast.

Day 5

I took yesterday off as Sunday is the Lord's day. Not really the reason but it sounds better than the actual reason of I didn't want to shower twice. I desperately needed to shave (it's been 2 weeks), I shave with an electric and that's it so I can't come home from a walk and be all sweaty and then shave, so I decided I'd take the day off, shave then shower and relax. I told you the first excuse sounded better.

I had planned on weighing myself at work since we don't have a scale at home. It's a industrial scale so who knows how accurate it is but I guess as long as I use only that, it will show any loss. I wasn't really expecting to lose anything already, but I wanted to get a weekly record of it and Monday seemed as good as a day as any. Maybe tomorrow.

I did walk today though, I wasn't sure I was going to as they were calling for late afternoon showers, plus I had to leave work, pick up Cheri and then head over to our contractors for a meeting. When we were done there we had to grab the kids at my moms and then head home so I figured after all that, I wouldn't be in the mood, but I more or less forced myself to go. I didn't want to have 2 days off in a row.

I just did my minimum, it was hot and a little later than I normally go plus once I got going, my shins started to hurt again. I had shin splints when I was younger when I played basketball on asphalt so I wonder if that's not rearing it's ugly head.

My goal as I'm walking is to keep at least a 3 mi/hr pace so I was conscience of slowing down and I tried not to. Even as I was getting towards the end and my shins were really hurting I kept up my pace. You can see up above that I averaged 3.1 mi/hr but since I was actually leary of slowing down, apparently I sped up.

Apparently at one point I got up to 5 mi/hr. According to the app, it was around the 20 minute mark when I did which would actually be after the half way point. So kudos to me, maybe that's the real reason my shins hurt.

Not as hot as it's been but I'm sure the heat index or realfeel was hotter because it was pretty muggy and as you can tell, pretty sunny. Although as I type this, it's pouring rain now so I guess it's a good thing I went when I did.

Don't worry, I kept my music in line as well.

Between You and Me (DC Talk)
Shut Up And Dance (Walk the Moon)
No One Like You (Scorpions)
the Stroke (Billy Squier)
Knock Three Times (Tony Orlando & Dawn)
Get Stoned (Hinder)
Stolen Dance (Milky Chance)
Mighty Wings (Cheap Trick)
Here Without You (3 Doors Down)

I love that song, it was great to walk to as well. The beat went right with my strides.

Day 4

I'm posting before noon, who else is shocked? That's right, I actually went for a walk before 10am. I get up at 5:15 am during the week for work so I usually sleep until around 9 or 10 on the weekends. Except for this morning apparently. I woke up around 7 and couldn't get back to sleep so I layed there for an hour before getting up. Trevor had a friend stay the night and his mom was coming by around 8:30 so I got up, checked to make sure they were up and grabbed a banana while I waited. They showed up and left a little before 9 so as soon as they left (and my phone got done updating) I headed out. The plan was to go the usual route (2 miles) but that can always vary depending on my mood.

Well, it varied.

That's right, 3.59 miles. I was feeling pretty good when I headed out. My shins felt stiff if that makes sense but it wasn't painful so I kept going and to be honest, I didn't really feel really sore and probably could have kept going but I figured I shouldn't push it. If you actually follow the map, I stretched it over to the main roads on both sides of the neighborhood.

I upped a couple of my trophy's with my longest walk, time and distance. I'm guessing the fact that I went earlier in the day and not after being on my feet for over 8 hours had a lot to do with that. This also helped.

Another advantage for going in the morning, it was much cooler. The forecast was for 90 degrees later today so it was definitely a good idea to go this morning. That might have attributed to the longer walk as well. I haven't figured out how to carry water with me while I walk so at this moment, I don't take any. I don't want to carry it in my hands and haven't figured out how to strap it to myself. I suppose I could probably shop for something, I would assume they have something that I could strap around myself.

I may do this everyday as well, as most of you know, I love to listen to lots of different types of music, so I'll throw out the songs that I listened to. Why not? I listen to my Anything & Everything playlist which the title says it all. Here's what I listened to this morning.

Something From Nothing (Foo Fighters)
50 Ways to Say Goodbye (Train)
That Don't Impress Me Much (Shania Twain)
No Boundaries (Adam Lambert)
Rollin' (Limp Bizkit)
Headlights (Eminem, Nate Ruess)
Paranoid (Megadeth)
Jump (For My Love) (the Pointer Sisters)
Longer (Dan Fogelberg)
Don't (Ed Sheeran)
Come With Me Now (Kongos)
Beaches of Cheyenne (Garth Brooks)
Should've Said No (Taylor Swift, Jonas Brothers)
Love Don't Cost A Thing (Jennifer Lopez)
Music For The People (Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch)
Tequila Sunrise (Eagles)
Score from Halloween (TV/Movie Themes)
No Way We Are Not Ashamed (Carman)
More Sold Out (Whiteheart)
Why Do Fools Fall in Love (Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers)
Watch Over You (Alter Bridge)
City Lights (Tim McGraw)
Fat Bottomed Girls (Queen)

I think it was funny the last song was Fat Bottomed Girls since I'm trying to get my fat ass smaller.

Days walked - 4
Currently miles walked - 10.83 miles
Minutes walked - 3 hrs, 21 minutes

I don't have to much going on today, I plan on teaching my daughter how to play poker and maybe a couple of other card games. I'll ask my son if he wants to play but knowing him, he won't want to leave his Xbox.

Day 3

Apparently this blog has now become a blog about my exercise, or more specifically, walking. I guess that's just the natural progression of the blog. It has been a little of everything in the few years I've had it. Blogging, Book reviews, movie reviews, a journal, you get the idea.

Now that school has started, it will be detrimental for myself to just get off my lazy ass and go. I planned on going after work. Come home, switch my work boots to shoes and then head out. Now that the kids are back in school, I get off work, go over to my moms where I sit on my ass for an hour while I'm waiting for them to get off the bus, then go home. It's harder to get motivated after sitting on my ass.

I went for my second walk this week. I set my goal for a mile and a half after the 3 mile hike earlier in the week kicked my ass. I figured I'd better start smaller and work my way up. I went pretty much the same route as I did earlier in the week but I cut some of it down. I walked my planned route and it actually ended up a little more than the mile and a half that I expected. Let's check it out.

As you can see, I went 2 miles on the nose so I will probably stick to that route for awhile and build up some endurance. It would probably help if I actually walked every day to build that. I headed out the same route for the most part, when I left my apartment though, I walked across the parking lot and walked around the outside of the complex until I got to the entrance and then went across to the neighborhood. I went down, did the 2 loops then came back. When I got back I came in the entrance and hung a right and walked along the outside of the complex again until I got back to my apartment. Like I said, it ended up being 2 miles on the nose so I'll keep that route for awhile.

My speed was down a little which surprised me, I figured a shorter route I would average faster but I guess not. I still did it in 36 minutes which I suppose is alright. It's been about my average lately.

I took this picture on my route so I could see the temperature at the time of my walk, I forgot to do that on the last post but I now see that it actually has the temperature on the map above. I could have used a headband, I had to keep wiping the sweat off my forehead. I plan on walking the next 2 days, we'll see how that goes.

3 miles, barely

If you read my last post, a couple of weeks ago, it said that I was going to try and walk more often. Well, this post is to tell you I went walking again, yeah, first time since then. So much for that. I did go for a 2nd time though, so let's celebrate that.

As my last post said, I was going to go through the neighborhoods across the street so I headed out after a few stretches on the stairs. I actually set a goal this time so I set out trying to accomplish something. I got going and was feeling pretty good, like I was thinking about a slow jog good. That didn't last to long, but I set a decent pace and pushed on. I kind of looped back and forth through the neighborhood and by the time I was heading back up the street that goes into the apartments, I was hurting. I pulled out my phone to see if I was close to my goal and I still had a little less than half a mile to reach it. Damn it! My feet were hurting and my legs were tired but I really wanted to reach that goal. So I did a lap around the apartments and I was still a tad short so I did half of another. I barely made it up the stairs when I got home but I did it, I reached 3 miles!

You see I ended up at 3.17 miles and I did it under an hour. I don't know if that's good or not, but it sounds good to me.

Let's take a look at my route.

I went from my apartment (the flag) and went straight out the entrance and across the street. I took that road all the way to the dead end and followed it to the right and around. Then I stayed on that road all the way to the last road and looped it around which is the 1 mile mark. On that long stretch, I walked by a house where there were 2 huge German Shepherds laying in the front yard and the home owner (I assume) was up on the roof hanging shutters. As I walked by I saw out of the corner of my eye one of the dogs get up and head my way. I didn't think anything of it, I just assumed it would stop at the road and I was on the other side of it. Next thing I know, I feel a nose up my ass, it startled me, not because it was a dog but just because I really wasn't expecting it. I reached around and gave him a quick pet before he trotted back to his yard.

The dark blue is my 1-2 miles track. You can see where I hit the 2 mile mark, Why they can't have another color for the 3rd mile is beyond me. After I looped around after the 2nd mile marker is where I pulled out my phone, hoping I already hit it but I hadn't. I decided to just go back to the apartment anyways. You see in the 2nd picture on the way back where it looked like I was going to go down that road but turned around? I actually was walking that way waiting for traffic to clear so I could cross. I was afraid if I stopped, I may not get it going again. I got into the apartment complex and stayed towards the outside, hoping when I got to my apartment, I'd be done, but I wasn't. I still had .21 miles left at the apartment so I continued on but I moved to the inside of the parking lot once I hit the entrance. You can see I hit the 3 mile just after the entrance, I checked it not long afterwards and you can see when I cut back towards the apartment. At the very end, I cut through apartments just to get back and it was all I could do to make it up the stairs to the apartment. I was wore out.

The first time I walked, I didn't really feel all that horrible when I finished, granted it was over a mile shorter, but this time I was really feeling it. As I type this, 5 hours later, I don't feel too bad. I think I was on the verge of a blister on the ball of my foot when I got home but that is feeling better as well. That might be more my footwear. I wear my sneakers anytime I leave the house, except for work. I've had them for a few years now, I just replace the cushion and arch support occasionally, which I believe is what I need to do.

This app keeps awards, to bad it's not money, I might walk more. Let's see what I achieved on my 2nd walk.I earned 5 but these 3 are the only ones I'm counting. The other 2 was most Calories, which duh, I walked further and one for reaching my goal. Longest distance I already discussed as well as the longest duration so we'll get to the fastest speed. My fastest speed was 4.8 mph which is actually an improvement on my last walk which was only 4.2 mph. If you go back to the top screenshot, you'll see my average pace was 3.0 mph, last time it was 3.2 mph but I'm telling you, I was dragging ass the last stretch so it probably really slowed that one down.

Maybe next time, hopefully there will be another, I'll set my goal at 2.5 miles and work my way up to 3 miles.

I exercised, really, I did

I woke up this morning and my eyes were still tired so I laid in bed for an hour with them shut and just contemplated life. I decided that I need to get my fat ass out and do something instead of sitting all weekend in my recliner. So I got up, popped my contacts in and went for a walk. No special route, just went next door and went around the outside of the parking lot at Walmart. I set my Samsung health tracker thingy on my phone to monitor myself.

One of the reasons I wanted to walk is because I joined a softball team again, although with all the rain, we've had 4 now (I think) get cancelled and I missed 2 because I was out of town on July 4th weekend. The 2 games I did play, I pulled up lame in both of them with my hamstring hurting. I finished both games but it hurt. The last one I really hurt it and I had trouble pitching the last inning. So as you can see, I definitely needed to get into shape. My last game is on Thursday and then that Saturday we have a single elimination tournament, so I could end up playing multiple games. It might be to little, to late, for me to start now but it's not like I can't use the exercise.

There's my map, the flag is  actually my apartment. It only lists 2 laps but I did 3 so I'm not sure if it didn't count one or one is just on top of the other. So I don't know how accurate this is. I plan on going out after work tomorrow and if I do, I think I'm going to go through the neighborhood across the street and I'll be able to tell how accurate it is, at least with my route.

I took these with snapchat because I knew they had these filters. It was a balmy 76 degrees out and sunny and it said my pace was 3.4 mph. Now to look at my final stats.

Technically, I didn't set up a target distance and I got all those trophies because it was the first time I had used the app, so don't think I'm that special. It says I went 2.07 miles in 38 minutes and my pace was 2.3/mph. Doesn't seem that impressive to me so I'm really hoping for some reason it didn't count a lap. That app also has a step counter and it says I only went a little over 4000 steps so I'm thinking it sucks at keeping track. I would think I would have gone more steps than that.

Now let's see if I can actually keep it up.

Crime and Exercise

Yesterday morning started like most non work days.  I got up, fed the kids and took them to school.  Although this morning, I changed my routine when I got back home.  Usually, I do one of 2 things.  I either kick on the Netflix and watch Star Trek TOS (I’m in season 2) or I crawl back into bed and cuddle with the wife until I fall back asleep again.  When I play Star Trek, usually around 10 o’clock or so, I start getting tired and end up falling asleep anyways.  So this morning, I came home, changed into shorts and a t-shirt and dusted off the Wii.  But before I got started, I hear shouting.  A woman on the other side of the complex kept yelling (while crying) to leave, just get out.  It took me a bit to locate where it was happening, but I saw the door open so whoever was doing the arguing were in the doorway.  I saw 2 teenage girls leave and that was the end of it.  So I went back to the Wii, turned down the volume and put my headphones on (Cheri and Skyler were still sleeping).

1

I’m pretty sure 106 days ago I logged in real quick just to see if I’ve gotten any fatter.  When we first got the Wii, I set up a program to work out to.  It had some yoga along with strength training exercises.  So I logged into that.

2

Yikes, that’s even longer than I thought.  No wonder I’m fat.  I turned on my Spotify and did the program.  It’s a total of 52 minutes.  It was harder than I remember and I certainly didn’t perform it as well as I did 910 days ago but I completed it.  Worked up a sweat and everything.  Here’s the workout at a glance.

3

These are the Yoga ones, I do 17 (squared in yellow) of those 18.

4

These are the Strength training ones, I do 11 (squared in yellow) of those 15.

I finished up, then I did some of the games on the Wii fit kind of as a cool down.  I ended up spending about an hour and 20 minutes doing something other than laying around.  That’s a big step for me.  Not that I’ll do it again, but at least when I log into the Wii next time, it won’t say over 1000 days since the last time.  Or at least I hope it doesn’t.

I went back and hopped in the shower so I can smell pretty when Cheri and I went to run our errands.  I got out of the shower and started telling her about the yelling I saw, I pointed out the window to the apartment where it was coming from and what do I see but cops walking around.  Now granted, this is 2 hours later.  I rubbernecked for a few minutes when I see this.

5

Now, she walked down the stairs and climbed onto the stretcher so I don’t know what her issue was.  All I know is there was a shouting match there 2 hours earlier and then what you see here.  I checked the local police blotter but it only goes to the 7th.  If I remember to look I will let you know what happened, chances are I probably won’t remember and to be honest, I don’t really care.  Other than it made my usually boring mornings a little more exciting.  And I got a blog post out of it.  Lucky you.

I’m pumping, me up

In case you missed it, I started a little bit of a workout. I’ve completed my first week today.  There is a small workout facility next to the office at our apartments and I can access it while the office is open and they aren’t open tomorrow.  If I stick with this for a month or so, I may go get a key so I can get into it anytime but I know myself, and I want to stay with it for awhile and make sure it’s going to stick.  The plan is to work out on my days off.  I can’t work out on the days I work because one, I’m exhausted.  And two, the office is closed before I get home so I would have to get the key to do that.  So I decided to just do the off days.

They have a stationary bike, an elliptical machine, a treadmill and a home gym set up with all the weights.  Monday was my first day off and I rode the bike, Tuesday I did the bike again but added the elliptical. Wednesday I worked, Thursday I did the bike, elliptical and played around with the weights to see if I wanted to add those to my workout.  Friday, the kids and I were out most of the afternoon so I didn’t get the chance, but we did go bowling so that’s some exercise at least.  Today, I felt good once I started and did the biggest workout so far.

  • Monday – biked 5 miles.
  • Tuesday – biked 4 miles, walked 563 steps (10 minutes) on the elliptical.
  • Thursday – biked 6 miles, walked 477 steps (10 minutes) on the elliptical.
  • Saturday – biked 10 miles, walked 498 steps (10 minutes) on the elliptical.seated chest press 4 reps of 10, 50 lbs., butterfly press, 4 reps of 10, 50 lbs.

I know that 50 lbs looks weak, but I really have no upper body strength.  I’ve always had strong legs from all the basketball, baseball and some running when I was growing up.  I never really did anything for my upper body.  Plus, I really just didn’t have a clue where to start so I started at 50 lbs.  I haven’t worked out since high school which is over 20 years ago and I never liked it back then.  I think the reason’s I’m tolerating it now are fairly simple.

  1. I’m fat – I’ve been fat for awhile now, but now my gut is getting in the way.  Clothes are getting tighter, it’s getting more difficult to tie my shoes. stairs kick my ass and my knees have been hurting.  Needless to say, I’ve been very disappointed in myself.
  2. Blood Pressure – I’ve been borderline high blood pressure for years, I’m guessing with the additional weight I’ve put on, that I might be pushing that.  That’s why I started with the bike because I need to get my heart rate up to make the blood pressure go down.
  3. I’m a loner – I don’t like people and this gym is seldom used.  So when I’m pushing my measly 50 lbs. in the air, I don’t have to worry about other people standing in the corner calling my a pussy.  Not that I care what they think, but I prefer to be left alone.
  4. Music – I’m really into listening to my music on Spotify.  I’ve always been into music but I hate the radio (commercials, sometimes poor song choice), I’ve always made mixed tapes and cd’s but they only last up to 20 songs and then your listening to the same stuff again.  I tend to start knowing what song is next and I don’t like that.  So now that I’ve started using Spotify, I have a playlist of over 1000 songs (no repeating) and they are all songs I like (no sucky ass songs).  Working out gives me more chance to listen to my music.
  5. Books – I’ve also gotten into reading a lot more.  But I don’t like to make time at home to read, I’d rather be watching TV or movies and being online in my down time.  Right now, I only read on my breaks at work so it takes awhile to get through even a smaller book.  While on the bike and the elliptical, I read (yes, while listening to music, I’m cool like that).

So there you see, I have other motives to keep me working out.  We’ll see if I stick to it or not.  Another problem that may be an issue, if you recall, we are trying to buy a house this summer.  If that happens, I lose my gym and will have to find something else.  Or maybe, pay for the key and come by after hours so nobody knows I’m using it.  Hmmm.

Spasms, High Blood Pressure and Star Trek

One of these things is not like the other!

Today hasn’t started well.  I woke up to Cheri not being in bed.  Her back was hurting so much last night that she had to go sleep on the recliner.  She was getting better day by day and then I went back to work yesterday, which left her having to get out of the apartment and take the kids to and from school.  Then this happened this morning.  I had to call in to work so I could drive the kids and help her out if she needs it.  I’m not worried about calling in being as I do it on average, less than once a year but it doesn’t help the paycheck any.  Especially now with it be 12 hours shorter instead of 8.  But we’ll make do.  I have the next 3 days off so hopefully she can recover by Monday.

It sucks seeing her like this.  She’ll just be sitting there and then she shouts out cuss words because she shifted herself a hair to the side and it put her in extreme pain.  It doesn’t look right seeing her use a walker or cane to get around.  Guess we’ll see how well she does for the next few days,  Right now she’s made it back into bed and is trying to get some sleep since sleeping in the recliner doesn’t exactly mean sleeping well.

She doesn’t want to be up anyways since I’ve just just started watching the original Star Trek TV series.  Yes, the ones that originally played in 1966, I think I’m going to watch them all (not today) then move on to the other series, the Animated Series (1973-1974), the Next Generation (1987-1994), Deep Space Nine (1993-1999), Star Trek Voyager (1995-2001) and Star Trek Enterprise (2001-2005).  I believe they are all on Netflix.  I still need to rewatch the last movie as well.  If you remember, I recorded a bunch of them on Christmas eve and watched them throughout the week.  But I still need to watch the prequel Star Trek movie or the 11th in the series (actually, I have to make Cheri watch it so she can be caught up).  Not that she wants to be caught up but I can’t have a wife who hasn’t seen the Star Trek movies.  That would just be wrong.

Universal Corner Gym

I do plan on continuing my workout today since I didn’t go to work.  What’s that?  You didn’t know I’ve started to work out, well then you obviously don’t follow me on Twitter.  The plan is to do a little workout on my days off, minus Sunday’s because the gym isn’t open.  Although, it’s not technically a gym, our apartment has a small room with some gym equipment.  It has a treadmill, stationary bike, elliptical machine and a weight set that has different types of benches to use (like the one pictured above).  On Monday I rode the bike for 5 miles, then on Tuesday I rode it for 4 miles and did 10 minutes on the elliptical.  Basically enough to get my fat ass off the couch.  They’ve been telling me for years that I need to walk everyday so I guess this is just as good.  They always tell me to get my heart rate up, it’ll probably help my borderline high blood pressure as well.  So he can stop his bitching too.

Time for Lipo

I came to a realization today.  I’m fat.  I know what your thinking,

  • Duh!
  • Do you not have mirrors?
  • Have you seen yourself eat?
  • Have you not noticed you block the sun?
  • Or noticed it’s been years since you’ve seen your penis?

Ok, maybe not all those.  But seriously, I’ve seen the signs the last few weeks but have tried to blame it on other things.  Like my clothes shrinking, my new clothes they were just making them smaller than they use to and 12 hours at work is getting to me.  But today, at work, I was walking by our industrial sized scale and I figured it could handle my weight, so I went ahead and climbed aboard.  My first reaction – HOLY F***ING SH*T.  Now before I show you the number that came up, remember that I had my work uniform on (that’s at least 4 pounds), plus it has a patch with my name on it (another pound), steel toed boots (10 pounds), I haven’t shaved in a few days (at least 3 pounds), I hadn’t taken my daily constitutional yet (could be 5 pounds on a good day), I had my cellphone on me (10 pounds at least).  Ok, I lied,  My first cellphone might have been 10 pounds but my latest one is probably only 1 pound.

Before I show you the number that came up, let me give you some background.  I’m 6’3” and have been since early high school.  I was around 150 lbs when I graduated a little over 20 years ago.  I stayed active playing basketball in the winter and softball for multiple teams during the summer.  I’m guessing about 7 or 8 years ago, I was around 175 lbs.  But I tore my rotator cuff playing softball stretching out behind me to make a catch over my head.  After I caught it the momentum took my arm back behind me.  I didn’t realize I tore anything until the next morning when I couldn’t pull my pants up.  But, being the idiot I am, I completed the season and hurt it more.  What it came down to is I had to take the next summer off as well because it still hadn’t healed.  When I wasn’t playing sports, I gradually started gaining more weight.  I ended up retiring from sports because by the time my shoulder had healed, I was fat and out of shape.  My knees and ankles couldn’t hack carrying my fat ass at a run.  Of course, I told myself it was because I was out of shape and not the additional weight.  Don’t get me wrong, I knew I was overweight but being as I worked most every day and I walk all day long at work, I didn’t really consider myself majorly out of shape.  Well, I got up to about 250 lbs and stayed for awhile.  Probably even a few years.  But lately I’ve noticed more weight gain.  Like I mentioned above, my work uniform was getting tighter, we bought some 2X shirts and had to return them for 3X and more difficulty bending down to tie my shoes to name a few.  If I had to guess, it’s the 12 hour days that I’m working that has done it.  Well, not really the days I worked but the days I’m off.  I had very few days off so I was constantly on my feet where as now, I spend a lot of my days off sitting on the couch, doing nothing.  I have 3 days off one week, and 4 the next so a lot more down time.  Because of the 12 hours, that first day off I’m usually just exhausted.  But I have no excuse for the other days.  I’ve just gotten really lazy.  So I need to do something about it.  And about this.

fatass

Sorry about the zoom in and you can see how nasty the scale is but now you know why I said the cuss words above.  That is the most I’ve ever weighed.  Now granted, some of what I said above is true, I do have on my steel toed boots but still, that’s just ridiculous.  So I’ve decided I need to do something about it.  I’m going to try to come up with 10 things that I need to do to get healthier.

  1. I’m going to start doing Wii fit again on my off days.  I’m too exhausted on work days and I don’t get home until after 7 as it is.
  2. I’m going to start doing 100 sit ups and 100 push ups everyday.  Even work days
  3. I’m going to try to do some crunches on a work out ball, that will go right after my gut.  I probably won’t be able to do many but hopefully at least some.
  4. No more Taco Bell.  I love Taco Bell and this will be the hardest.
  5. The apartments here have a work out room so I’m going to try to get over there periodically if for anything, ride the bike or something productive.
  6. I’m also going to lift weights, bench press, ect. and bulk up my upper body strength.  I have never had any upper body strength.  All my muscle was in my legs.
  7. I’m going to cut back on the snacks before bed.  I do tend to get chips or cookies before bed and munch, sometimes until the bag is gone.
  8. I’m no longer going to drink sweet tea.  That’s about all I drink at home.  I drink a lot, usually about a 32 oz. glass a day or so but it has enough sugar that I’m sure it’s not helping.
  9. I’m going to drink more water.  On my days off, I tend to sit all day and never drink anything.  I don’t know if this will necessarily help me with weight loss but it will be a healthier alternative.
  10. I’m going to start riding my bike, winter, spring summer and fall.  At least 100 miles a week.

Yeah!  I got 10, too bad I’m only going to actually do the odd numbered ones.  I have no intentions of doing the even numbered ones.  But I got 10.  I know, I’m cheating already.  I would save this for a New Year’s Resolution but I don’t really do those since I never follow through on them anyways.  And to be honest, the deck is stacked against me with this goal as well, because I am fat, and lazy.

I’d promise you a weekly post to let you know how I’m doing, I could even call it Fat Ass Fridays but I probably won’t keep that up either so I’m not going to promise you anything.  I’m hoping that since I put this up here, maybe some of you all will keep me accountable.  I do know if I start doing this, it won’t be until Monday because I’m working all weekend.

Randomness

Went to the dentist this morning to have the teeth extracted that I mentioned here.  It was supposed to be last Friday but the dentist got sick so they rescheduled for this morning.  He really had to work at one to get it out.  He said because I didn’t get it taken care of 2 years ago that it fused to the bone.  They informed me that he got a piece of my lip and tongue so those will probably be bruised once the swelling goes down.  I’ll let you know if it ever goes down.  The nurse told me she was impressed with all the work he had to do to get that one tooth out, she said I never flinched.  The dentist kept asking if I was ok, I think he was checking to see if I passed out because I just laid there with my eyes closed.  I treat the dentist like I do the doctor, I trust that they know what they are doing so I don’t worry about it.  I plan on going back to work tomorrow but she said I would be really sore so we’ll see.

I’ve been a blogging fool lately though.  I’ve gotten a bunch of posts typed up for this blog and a bunch for My Sports Obsession.  Although that blog is easy to post because it isn’t like this one where it’s mostly about what I type.  That one is post a picture and talk a little about it.  Here’s what I got typed up so far.

  1. Cousins – Chanting
  2. the First of an Obsession
  3. MS update and art class
  4. the Writing was on the Windows
  5. Chase Fridge

I don’t know what order I’ll post them in, and I have a few other idea’s to type out.  I’ll have to select some for the weekly Dude Write contests too.  I don’t think I’ll ever win it all there but it gets my traffic up and those posts I usually have a lot of interaction in my comments section.  I’ve picked up some followers through there as well.  I write for myself but I’m not ashamed to admit it’s a nice boost for my ego when I have readers.

My wife just informed me that she thinks I’m getting fatter.  We don’t have a scale here so I’ll have to weigh myself tomorrow at work, if I go.  It’s a heavy duty industrial scale so it’ll hold my fat ass.  I guess it’s a good thing I’m on soft foods for a few days.  Maybe I can drop 100 lbs to please my wife.  I thought she loved the Buddha, but apparently not.  Maybe it’s the swollen mouth that makes me look fatter.

INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE

I have this song stuck in my head.  I heard it this morning after the dentist.  Cheri was still sleeping (trying to get rid of a migraine) so I sat down at the kitchen table with my laptop (to blog) and plugged my headphones into my phone and was listening to my spotify playlist when this came on.  My wife said she didn’t remember Michael and Janet doing a song together.  So here’s my proof.

Kind of a weird video, but what do you expect from the Jackson’s.

I better go, my mouth is starting to hurt and I don’t think it’s completely stopped bleeding yet.  I need to stick a tampon up there or something.  I have to leave to go get the kids from school in a hour and Trevor has Boy Scouts tonight.  Plus Cheri has some shopping planned, picking up a few things, but shopping none the less.  No rest of the fat and bleeding.
