Journal, August 30th

9:30 am

Is it noon yet?

11:00 am

Finally got a couple of RSVP’s for Trevor’s party, nothing like waiting until the last minute considering the party is at 4.  The 2 boys that are staying the night are both coming and in even better news, both their parents are picking them up early tomorrow.

10:00 pm

Michigan did what they were supposed to do and stomped Appalachian State.  They looked good doing it too, I just hope it carries over to next week when the opponent is a little tougher.

Trevor’s party was a hit.  5 of his friends showed up, which considering we got 3 RSVP’s, that would be 2 people that just showed up.  I think that’s just rude but whatever, I’m glad they showed up.  I was afraid nobody was going to show up at the rate we were getting RSVP’s.  We ended up getting the first one yesterday, and the other 2 this morning.  I’m glad this wasn’t something we really had to plan to the T.  The party was a hit though, I think everyone enjoyed themselves and Trevor invited 2 of the friends to spend the night.  They have been pretty much hiding in his bedroom all evening on their devices.  They went outside for 5 minutes but it started to rain and they had to come back in.  They’ve been good though, hardly a peep out of them.

Journal, August 29th

2:30 pm

It was a very slow day.  Both lines were running the same parts so that’s a little less that I normally have to do plus one of the departments that I take care of had the day off so I didn’t have them bugging me.  We ended up getting out of there just after 1 instead of 2.  We finished up everything we needed for the month, they called 2nd shift and told them not to come in tonight.

7:00 pm

As mentioned yesterday, I took the kids to the Hall of Heroes Super Heroes museum.  It was pretty cool, I could probably spend a lot more time in there but was on limited time.  They had an actual Captain America shield from the first movie, autographed by the cast of the second movie.  That and an original Batman outfit that Adam West wore during the original series.  He said he was offered triple digits for that.  He also said they have every comic from 1956 (I think) to current (probably dc or marvel or both, I don’t remember).  The Facebook page says they have over 55,000+ comic books.

11:30 pm

So, apparently the JackAss isn’t dying.  Didn’t I call it?  Only the good people get punished, not the douchebags.  That’s all I’m going to say about that, way to start my weekend with a depressing point.

11:59 pm

Psst.  12 hours until Michigan opens their college football season.  I’m jacked, nervous, but jacked.  Oh yeah, Trevor’s party is tomorrow too.

Journal, August 28th

It was pretty slow today, which I expected.  I would have probably had tomorrow off but the stuff we needed to finish this months orders, that were supposed to be in at 10am, still weren’t there at 2pm when I left.  So depending on when it showed up, if it showed up, will depend on what all we do tomorrow.  I don’t know if we’ll make it all day.

Overheard at Subway today that the new Taco Bell will be open this weekend.  A Taco Bell, within walking distance, I’m in so much trouble.  There goes all the weight I lost.  I overheard it from a kid talking on his cell phone so I have no idea if it’s true or not but it looks really close to be done.  They even have the ad posters hanging around in the windows.

The plan for tomorrow is, when the kids get home from school, we are going to take them to the Hall of Heroes Super Heroes Museum

Journal, August 27th

From what it sounds like, I may get a 4 day weekend.  Of course, I heard we were probably going to have last Friday off and we didn’t so we’ll see.  Between being ahead of schedule, the end of the month and a holiday weekend, we will probably run out of subs tonight.  I’m not even sure what we are doing tomorrow.  It’s probably going to be another very slow day.  A 4 day weekend would be nice, but it’ll suck on next weeks paycheck.

It’s closing in on 11 o’clock, I’ll be heading to bed soon.

Journal, August 26th

Nothing going on.  Got some more rain by virtue of another pretty big storm.  It was also another not very long lasting one but at least it was over when I got home from picking up the kids so I didn’t have to get soaked coming in.  Hopefully it cooled off some so work isn’t so hot tomorrow.

Hitting the hay early tonight, as in right now.

Journal, August 25th

So much for both lines running today.  I got to work and neither of them we’re working.  I struggled to find stuff to do for the first 3 hours.  They finally got the north line running at 9 but I started to help out in the press room and stayed pretty busy the rest of the day.  They finally got the south line running around noon.  I just hope it doesn’t make us have to work Saturday since it’s the first Michigan game plus my son’s birthday party.

I’m just glad I didn’t have to work 12 hours because when I left at 2, it was really starting to heat up in there.

Notice the RealFeel temp at the bottom left.

I went and picked up the kids after school and on our way home, we got drenched just running from the car to the apartment.  It dumped rain and I swear I saw small hail bouncing off my windshield.  The ground was steaming because it was so hot before it rained.  It dumped for about 20 minutes then cleared up and got hot again.

We had planned on going to watch my nephew play football tonight.  The game was about 30 minutes away at 6 but they changed it to 7:30 because of the heat, hoping it would cool off some for the players.  Since they pushed it back and it’s a bit of a drive, I decided not to go.  It’s the beginning of the season, he’ll have plenty more to go to.

I hit a couple of milestones last week and hadn’t realized it.

  • 8/19/14 – On Tuesday, I posted my 600th post to this blog, Random Thoughts From A Random Guy.  It took 3 1/2 years, but I hit it.  It helps that I’m posting pretty much every day now.
  • 8/21/14 – On Thursday, I posted my 800th post to My Sports Obsession.  Again, almost 3 1/2 years to get there.  I started this blog a little over a month after the Random Thoughts blog.
  • 8/22/14 – On Friday, my car rolled over it’s 150,000 miles mark.  I’ve had it for almost 11 years.  It’s a 2003 and I bought it that year but it had something like 17,000 on it when I bought it.

Journal, August 24th

8:00 pm

Got up at 9 this morning, yeah!  Didn’t go to bed until really late, or early though so I was still pretty tired.  We were up late last night watching some Redbox DVD’s.  We watched 2 last night and 1 this morning.

I picked up the kids this afternoon from the ER at the hospital because theEx was having back issues and drove herself in.  I picked them up to take them to my grandfather’s 82nd birthday.  We had a good time at the party, I always do because I enjoy hanging with the family even if we just sit around and chit chat.

11:30 pm

As per my usual Sunday night, I’m up too late for a work night.  That tends to happen because I stay up later and get up later on the weekends.  It doesn’t take me long to screw my body up out of my sleep schedule.  Up until this job, I pretty much always stayed up past midnight, even when I had to get up fairly early.  Guess I’ll have another tired Monday, I just hope both lines are running so it’s not so slow.

Here’s a listing of all the new (to us) episodes that we watched tonight.

  • Castle (Netflix – DVD) – We watched 4 of the 5 episodes on the disc.

  • Lone Survivor (Redbox DVD) – Great movie.  The crap soldiers go through is just ridiculous.  The fact that this is based on a true story makes you respect them all the more.  I gave it 5 stars, as did Cheri.
  • The Quiet Ones (Redbox DVD) – Also based on a true but no nearly as good.  It wasn’t really all that scary.  It had quicky, scary parts but other than that, wasn’t great.  I gave it 2 stars, as did Cheri.
  • Noah (Redbox DVD) – If you don’t mind it really following the bible, it wasn’t a bad movie at all.  It was a little far fetched as far as the world before the flood but it still made for a good movie.  I give it 4 stars, Cheri didn’t really watch it, just pieces.
