Snow and Dancing

In case you haven’t heard, our city/counties have been shut down a few times in the last couple of weeks because of snow, cold temperatures and the wind.  I believe the kids are up to 8 snow days already this year.  Some schools are already called off tomorrow, I’m just waiting for the call that theirs is.  Luckily, the 12 hour day schedule has actually helped as in I’ve only lost 1 day to shut down out of 3.  They were shut down the last couple of days but they were already scheduled days off so there is that.  We can’t afford for me to miss, too broke.  As of now, the plant is schedule to be reopened tomorrow morning, just in time for me to go in on my scheduled day.  I keep trying to explain to the kids when they get excited about another day off, that they are going to end up going until July to make them up.

My daughter posted the above status after I told her last night that I have never been to a school dance.  I think she’s thinking that we are recreating this.

267380_2296403775771_3086593_n

We danced at my nieces wedding, that was back in 2010 (I think).  I tried to warn her by posting these videos on the comments saying that I was going to dance like this.

or pick one of these dances

She didn’t find it that funny.  I recall her saying she would die.  My brother responded with this video saying it would probably be more like this.

She has no idea what she’s in for.  My mom used to make fun of me because I had all the athletic skills in the world (before I got fat) but I couldn’t dance to save my life.  The sad thing is, I can’t even argue it, she’s right.

She thinks she’s nervous, I’m the one that’s nervous, I’ve never been to a dance, not even when I was in school.  I have no idea what to expect.  Sure I can slow dance, all that is is rocking back and forth and moving my feet in a slow circle but if they pull out a faster, upbeat song, I’m screwed.  I will look like one of the videos above.  It will be worse if they play some of the crap that the kids listen to, I might have to leave early.  She may actually want to leave early to avoid more embarrassment.

Music Monday’s #16

zzz-musicmondays

Welcome to the next edition of Music Mondays.  It’s pretty basic, I take a playlist and put it on random, and post what comes up.

  • Playlist – “Anything & Everything”
  • Description – Anything from Christian to Rock, Rap to Country, Classical to 80’s.  It goes from the 1960’s to current.  Pretty much anything and everything that I like.
  • Number of songs on the playlist – 1,707 songs (up 13 songs from last post)

  1. Whatever (Our Lady Peace)
  2. Winds of Change (Russ Taff)
  3. You Wouldn’t Know (Hellyeah)
  4. All 4 Love (Color Me Badd)
  5. Eye of the Tiger (Survivor)
  6. Rocketown (Michael W. Smith)
  7. Loser (3 Doors Down)
  8. Kiss A Girl (Keith Urban)
  9. No Taboo (White Heart)
  10. Invisible Touch (Genesis)
  11. What’s It Like (Everlast)
  12. Crazy Little Thing Called Love (Queen)
  13. Time After Time (Cyndi Lauper)
  14. Bidi Bidi Bom Bom (Selena)
  15. These Days (Foo Fighters)
  16. Foundations (Geoff Moore & the Distance)
  17. Are You Ready (DeGarmo & Key)
  18. We Are in Love (Harry Connick Jr.)
  19. Get Lucky (Daft Punk)
  20. Heat of the Night (Bryan Adams)

Pretty decent mix of different genres.  Rock, Christian, Classic Rock, Country, 80’s and even a Jazz song and a Spanish artist.  That’s why I use this Spotify, so I can get a nice mix of everything.  My favorite song on this list is probably the Foo Fighters, These Days.

In this section, I randomly choose an artist from above and show all the songs I have on my playlist.  I used Random.org, put the numbers 1-20 and click random 3 times, the number 18 came up at the top which would be Harry Connick Jr in accordance to the list above.

This is a good choice since now he is on American Idol and people are learning who exactly he is.  I’ve always been a fan of his but I don’t listen to him enough to know a lot of his songs.  I fell in love with one song of his a long time ago and picked up a few others throughout the years.  But I believe he has a crap load of albums and songs.  For the uneducated, you may know him from a couple of songs on the When Harry Met Sally soundtrack like “It Had To Be You” or “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” or maybe you didn’t know he even sang and you knew him from the movies “Copycat” or “Independence Day”, I know he has other movies but those are the first 2 that come to my mind.  The ladies will remember “Hope Floats” and “PS, I Love You.”  Now that we get to see him on American Idol, we are starting to get to know the real Harry.  He’s straightforward and blunt but polite (most of the time) and funny.  I’ve already heard him tell one guy (who had no business trying out for Idol) just to go, that he was disrespecting the show just to get on TV.  Oh yeah, and the girls think he’s hot, so there’s that too.

harryconnickjr

I have 6 songs from his but I should probably go listen to his stuff and add more.  The song I mentioned above that I fell in love with was “We Are in Love”, a friend of mine had that album so we listened to it a bunch back then which is where those 3 songs came from, and as you can tell, the other 3 I ran across in movies.  Because of the type of music he plays, I just don’t run across much so like I said, I need to go listen to some of his albums sometime.  Maybe when I’m done running through the playlist, I only have a couple of hundred of songs left before I start over again.

zzz-trackoftheday

Track – Are We All We Are

Artist – P!nk

totd-screencap24

I haven’t done a Track of the Day in awhile so I went through and hand picked this one out of the ones I had saved just because I saw her perform at the Grammy’s last night.  The original reason I saved this song was just to tell you that I have recently discovered P!nk.  My wife introduced me to her a few years ago and I love a lot of her music and the more I learn about her, I love her as a person as well which you don’t get to say about celebrities too much anymore.  The song above isn’t even my favorite by her, but pretty much anytime I hear a song by her, I think of my wife and that certainly isn’t a bad thing.

Here’s her performance from last night.  It’s amazing enough that she does the acrobatics but to sing while doing this (I’ve read where she doesn’t lip sync) is amazing.

This Week on A Day in the Life of a Nobody

It’s Sunday, time for a recap of what I post on my Tumblr page “A Day In The Life of a Nobody”.

zzz-blogbanner

the Hunger Games:  Catching Fire

I am the one who knocks.

Breaking Bad

So apparently I ran out of posts on that blog after a couple of days so this post is short and sweet.  That’s mainly because I get the majority off blogs in my feedly and I haven’t been reading those much because I’ve been working on a special project.  So little time spent on Feedly that I’m closing in on 7000 unread posts again.

There is a lot of gif’s in this post, so if they don’t all show up and you want to see them, go to A Day In The Life Of A Nobody.

Movie reviews

Laws Reviews

You’re Next – Redbox DVD

I didn’t really know anything about this movie when I picked it up, all my daughter said was that it looked scary, but she’s 11 so they all look scary.  It wasn’t bad at all, wasn’t great, but wasn’t bad.  It was your typical slasher film but it had a bit of a twist ending.

My review - 3/5 stars.

Cheri’s review – 2/5

Prisoners – Redbox DVD

After getting used to seeing Hugh Jackman with a goatee, this was a pretty good movie.  It had some twists with the who done it that made it pretty good.  It had it’s slow parts and it kind of had an abrupt ending otherwise it would have gotten another star from me.

My review – 4/5 stars

Cheri’s review – 4/5 stars

The Wolverine – Redbox DVD

I thought this was great but I’m a big fan of the franchise so it would have to be pretty bad for me not to like it.  I like the origins movies as well because you learn more about the character’s background.

My review – 4/5 stars

Cheri’s review – 4/5 stars

Flowers in the Attic – Lifetime TV movie

I knew this was a controversial book in it’s day but I didn’t know why.  Cheri and I DVR’d it to watch and it was definitely weird.  I understood the controversy, it was hard to watch.  I understand why it happened in those circumstances, but in order not to be grossed out, I had to tell myself they were actors but that kind of takes my head out of the story.  It was a good movie, but the topic made it hard to watch.

My review – 3/5 stars

Cheri’s review – 4/5 stars.

I had actually watched Wolverine awhile back and when I went to review the other 3, I realized that I never reviewed it.  Oops.  I also have to remember to get Cheri’s review after the movie because with her memory, she may not have a clue what I’m talking about by the time I review it.

Book Review–Creatures of Appetite by Todd Travis

Laws Reviews

I try not to go into the storyline too much on my reviews because I hate when reviews are spoilers.

Creatures of Appetite

Creatures of Appetite by Todd Travis

A cocky, arrogant profiler who has trouble keeping friends, gets recruited back into the FBI on one provision, solve this case and we’ll let you back on the case that ruined your career.  This was a pretty good book and I enjoyed it.  It had some twists and turns and the interactions with the local police department added some comedy in the mix as well.

I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads.  A good thriller if those are your types of books.

Book Review–1984 by George Orwell

Laws Reviews

1984

1984 by George Orwell

I saw this while browsing my library app and decided to check it out.  I haven’t read it since high school and I recall liking it back then.

I liked it just as much, if not more because I probably understood it more.  I don’t see giving much of a review because all of you should know the story so I just wanted to say that I enjoyed it, again.  I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads although I felt dumb marking it with stars considering it’s an American classic but there it is.
