A to Z Challenge - R

If your new to this Challenge, every day of April, minus the Sundays you blog about the letter assigned for that day. To find out why I’m blogging about what I’m blogging about, then go here. Today’s letter is

Samantha’s word – Rat

Only my daughter would use rat for an R word.  I realize some people have them as pets but the only thing I think of is the filthy rat kind.  Sewer rats and those sorts.  Although I thought the Rodents of Unusual Size from the Princess Bride looked like huge rats and if you asked me to picture a rat, that’s the image my mind goes to.  I’m pretty sure she didn’t mean RATT, I doubt she knows who they are.  The only song coming to mind right now by them is Round and Round but I assume I probably no more than that.

Trevor’s word – Rack

I could get in trouble with this word.  I don’t use a wine rack or need to replace my rack and pinion.  I don’t hunt so there isn’t a deer head with a huge rack hanging in the living room.  I don’t eat rack of lamb or use a shoe rack, torture rack, coat rack, magazine rack (does anyone still get magazines?) or a spice rack.  None of those come to mind when I say rack anyways.  But I’ll leave that alone and let you guess what kind of rack comes to mind when I hear that word.

  1. My best friend growing up was a sweet black and white rat named Yamaguchi, for reasons I can no longer remember. I loved her dearly for three and a half years, a long life for a rat, I'm told.

  2. Rats definitely aren't among my favourite living things.

    1. Mine either, but I don't think I've ever really had to deal with them either.

  3. Cool idea to have your kids give you the words!

  5. We still get magazines. I think it's something that only people over 60 do...like having a land line. I ordered a rack of ribs for dinner tonight at Famous Daves BBQ.

    1. I think my wife gets a couple. I find whatever is in magazines will eventually be online somewhere and I'll catch it there. I don't know to many people who still have land lines, a few, but not many.

  8. A spice rack connotes organization and having a collection of spices. The few spices I have are just randomly distributed throughout the cupboards and most of them are probably kind of old. Besides having spices probably means some fancy cooking going on and not much of that happening at my house.

    1. My wife can cook, but all her spices are in the cupboard as well. We don't have the counter space for a rack anyways.

  9. Rat and Rack! Perfect. My favorite Rat is Remy from the movie "Ratatouille" (a rat that aspires to be a gourmet chef). FYI, I don't get print magazines, but I do subscribe to a few on my Kindle Fire. So no need for a rack. Thanks for stopping by my blog! Cheers!

    1. I don't think I've seen Ratatouille since it first came out, it's been awhile. I've thought about getting magazines on my Fire but I figure I have enough to read. My wife does get a few magazines, but she breezes through them pretty quick and gets rid of them. So no need for a rack for us as well.

  10. When I was growing up in Illinois (farm), I saw plenty of monster rats. Cannot view a rat as a pet, either.

    1. We had a corn field behind us growing up but all we got were field mice when it started to get cold.
